I was just at ms DirectX site and wow, something isn't good over there! I was trying to download DX9.0b SDK, and DX9.0bSDK Update (Managed Direct X - .NET SDK) and when I started the download I was getting a sickening 3KB/Sec tansfer rate where my average on my cable modem is usually just under 500 KB/Sec (yes KB not kbps) Anyway I checked to make sure it wasn't my connection by hitting another site and grabbing a 30 Meg file, the trans was where it was supposed to be just under 500 KB, so at least it wasn't just my connection - something is pounding MS servers as we speak. That would normally be pretty funny but not when I am trying to download ! Anyway at last check I was even slower at 1002 BYTES / Sec - ha ha!

you must have a pretty bad connection atm, just tested it here and we're getting a healthy 112,512kb/sec

well it's not my connection, as other sites are fine, but maybe a hop somewhere in my route is no good - but it doesn't really make sense. More likely ms getting hit with just plain old high traffic or some other devious thing.

who knows, I'll try again later

btw raven did you mean 112 - 512 KB/sec or 112,512kbps/sec because you can't really mean 112,512KB/sec - just checking

hasn't microsoft had a few probs with hackers recently tho'?
i now they have issued loadsa security patches recently to protect our windows system - especially for win 2000 pro which i am using at the mo'
and yes it took me aaaages to grap my downloads from there and i have a 600k modem and it is usually pretty choppy.

384megabit optical cable line ^_^ ... as everyone is currently on the LAN connected to the beta server - i've pretty much got free reign of it

i'm using it to pool alot of machines resource together atm, got like 16machines rendering a single scene. I love the new Render Slave features in Max6.

i'm going green with envy, and i'm not joking!

i'd be happy with 512k adsl, god i hate 56k,
then again, i'd even be happy with 128k isdn
i need money, and then i wish to transfer that money into broadband.

any broadband connection is better than the narrow bands like ISDN and Dialup ... can get some good pings which is more important that data burst size in games.

and yeah OC connections are awesomely fast
but when you have to shift entire CDs of information fast from computer to computer they're better to use than standard Terminal lines like T1/T3 (10/100)

i mean next to the 512megabit (64mbyte/sec) Optical Cable line the 100megabit (12mbyte/sec) Terminal3 lines are very age-ed.
used to have OC255 at my first place here in the states, it was awesomely fast for downloading but i never got the uploading working which made it useless for games.

dial ups and 56k modems are pure evil and was the purist bane of my life!

i adore my lovely broadband connection and i will never ever part with it.

i really could do with broadband, and all i'm asking for is 512k adsl, it would be much more better for games.

but then again, with 56k, you get alot more work done than with braodband.

So Shock, does it piss you off then that I have a 1mbps NTL connection, and I never download anything or play online games? Infact, I sit here in IE, browing webpages, and maybe once a week a download an MP3 or stream some music/TV.

Isn't life unfair?
