someone here once said make the exe in db then change extension to .scr

not sure if that works tho

i think in the codebase there is an entry for DB Classic... the code actually works better in DBP... that the program you create you can actually have settings, and the preview window working (that is what it says, never tried it)...

but i believe that all DB created programs can be made into screensavers (i know DBC can), just by renaming it from a .exe to a .scr... but without the code thats in the codebase, when in the display properties (when it loads the preview screen) it will launch the entire program instead of in the little screen.

i might mess around with it... test it out and post my findings here.

Screensavers are just executables with support for a couple of extra command line switches (/s and /p I seem to remember) which get called when you press the setup or the preview button.

How much ham could a hamster stir, if a hamster could stir ham?

while you may make exe into scr files they won't preview in the screensaves options in windows, little more to then just renaming I'm afraid. but, it will work for you though.

Yep, I have. I used to have it for download on my web page but in an effort to present a nice new clean image I removed it... Some of the content would have made net nanny say 'oh gosh'.

As for how? Well you didn't ask that, so I wont tell you

i've turned an exe into a screen saver, in the project window click on the browse button next exe file name, then click save type as and change it to screensaver - hope this helps

You can specify in the default IDE to write an exe or scr file. Not a biggie, but it saves you a step.

There are two paths to take concerning screen savers and DBPro: You can build an execuable 'shell' in VB or Delphi and call your DBPro programs from that. It's a little clunky, but you have a Windows GUI for the config panel and you can use the /preview windows handle. The other method is to write your own preview and config windows when your_program.scr is called.

There is a complete example in the codebase. Just for fun, here's my 'complete' screen saver shell (click on the source button.) One thing that I like to do is set the display type to hidden. This keeps the monitor from going all spastic when it loads the preview and config windows.

BTW, my code tries to load an inverted sphere, a ship model, and a generic MP3 called track1.mp3. Substitute these with your own resources or contact me via e-mail.

Mine also has a disappearing 'banner' in the lower left corner like a music video. Have fun, coding screen savers is a great way to try out various special effects and models.
