Is there a don't panic thread anywhere?

I've just run up DB Pro and attempted to load my current project but DB Pro can't find it. The project directory still exists, all the project assets, dba & bak files are there, but if I try and open the project I just get a (presumably new) empty main source file.

The dba files are of various sizes, so I suspect the code is still around.

I'm guessing there's a thread or article somewhere, so a pointer would be welcome.

Thanks,

CJ

Try opening the .bak file up in notepad and seeing if the code is in there? You can also look inside the: \The Game Creators\Dark Basic Professional Online\TEMP\ Directory and look for a .dba file in there. I think it dumps the last compiled code inside there. Just to suppress future spine chills, I would suggest keeping a .txt file in the same folder and copy-pasting any new revisions in there.

Good luck!

If you compiled the code, your code will be in a ._temp file in the same directory. If that fails, go to the DBP main directory in the temp folder and try your luck there.

And when you find your code make sure that you have the latest updates, including the editor update. I haven't lost code with the new editor so far.

Check all the files using Notepad - your code might still be there. Then start a new project, copy and paste the code into it, then use Save Project As (to get a new .dbpro file), then Save As to get the new .dba file, then change the exe name, and finally use Save Project. You should then have a new project with the new .dba file.

There is still an editor glitch which causes these symptoms from time to time - but I never see it when I start new projects as I've described above.

I'm afraid I don't have input for the current situation. To prevent this in the future though, make plenty of backups. I've learned it the hard way and I'm now a proper backup-junky. Even if smoke would rise from my computer. I'm not worried about the projects.

Daata recovered thanks folks. I copied it from the backups into a new project.

And bought a usb drive for backups.

Sometimes with the old editors, when you double click on the .dbpro or .dba file, the editor opens but doesn't actually open the file. If that's the problem it should open fine using the file select dialogue once the editor's already open.
