Quote: "Sounds like you need to do a complete uninstall re install of FPSC with v119.
Generally upgrading from one version to another is no recommended."
Where do people find these supposed recommendations? When you install FPSC, you start at what, version 1.0? Then you run your upgrade, correct? So if it is "not recommended to upgrade", then how do you get a newer version? We'd all be stuck at version 1.0. And why would you suggest an uninstall and reinstall, considering the user may have tonnes of media already installed. That's time consuming to say the least. The only time you need to uninstall and reinstall is if files have been corrupted, missing, or some sort of virus has taken over. We run FPSC v1.17 on a few systems. We've upgraded one system from v1.17 to v1.18; and another from v1.17 to v1.19. Not one issue. Honestly, misinformation is what causes so many new people to be lost and frustrated...
Quote: "When ever i open FPSC and the splash screen says "checking files for you!",seconds after it crashes saying: "The application has encountered a problem". This only happens with versions 1.17 and above. I really need to use V1.19 for the new coding options... please help"
The key is knowing
where the installation is going. If you are installing into the default location (ex: c:\Program Files\The Game Creators\FPS Creator), then you need to run the version update
As Administrator. This will ensure all the files are installed according. If you install into another path (ex: c:\The Game Creators\FPS Creator), you should still install
As Administrator. That could be one issue.
Another issue is that you might need to run the actual application "As Administrator" (if using Vista for example). Some people turn off UAC, others don't. Another issue is that there is a task still running called FPSCreator.exe or another part of FPSC running that needs to terminate first before you try to launch it again. There are a variety of reasons that could cause this error. I've encountered it and know it gets frustrating, but these are generally one of the causes.
