Get help from your friends who play games. Get ideas from them. Get ideas from TV shows or movies but keep it original to your own taste.

Now that I said this, you may find this thread locked eventually. Just saying.

Ched, is that published in the UK? Is it available at bookstores worldwide or Amazon?

Answers like these just might keep this thread open.

I think I got a story. But what should the project be called that the evil team is working on? And what should it be?

(Make it be Project _______)

knm, these are all question you should ask yourself and your team but not others around. when you have no ideas what your next game we be all about (beside the story), and it looks like that because you even not tell us what kind of world you want it to be placed in.
doesnt make sense to ask for a story when you have no background where the story can be based on. no characters, no world description, no political/social backgrounds... these are the things a story is made of, and these are the things you have to be aware of before asking others for a story.

name also results out of these or out of the story. dont think of a name for something that doesnt even exist, it will come to your mind by itself while developing the game. the internal name for crysis at the beginning was "apfelsaft - the game"..., maybe you cant speak german, "Applejuice", total nonsense-name because it simply doesnt matter.^^

develop the enviroment, story will come, leads to the name sooner or later. THEN you can get a WIP started (where a name is needed for the first time).

Hey Terry,
The book is published world wide, well Europe and the US at least. It's written by an American.

I agree with Maik too. These questions are far too open. You need to have some sort of idea of what you wish to create.

Maybe start with what you don't want to do

The game will take place in an apocalyptic place. The genre will be similar to Bf2 and Stalker. Characters will have outfits on like radiation suits. And maybe some of it will take place in space. I want the game to take place in different climates, snow, sandy, and more. The guns will be modern. I want the enemy to be a Communist army formed from places like China, Russia, and Cuba. That's what I got so far. So I need a good story for it all. That's what I'm having trouble with.

Sounds exactly like a Fallout during the war. Be careful with what you put, if you make it too similar, you may get hit with a few lawsuits.

thats something to handle with. thought of the main character? what was his profession before the war? family-guy or lonewolf? wich job he has now or what abilities to (fly) around the world fighting in ww3? secret agent, soldier, smuggler (!), freelancer,an escaping deserter who sees no sence in that war, a father in search for his family/son-soldier.... depends on your preference only. make a profile for the mainchar first, then you will get further ideas, especially to wich places he goes mainly depends on this. a janitor from ohio wont travel to arabian dessert in most cases if he is not a soldier or in search for something.
while "soldier in a postapocalyptic war" is used about a million times, try to find something else would be nice, even to get better ideas for something unique.

äähm, there is only 1 communists country left in the world, and thats north-korea, and even they will open the gates the next 5 years... ok, 1 1/2 when thinking of cuba too, atm.
to call a country like china comunistic that has buyed into half of the us-companies using the capital markets to do this over the last decade is... misplaced.^^

but it gets political wich isnt allowed (hard to find a realistic global story without discussing these things^^).

The game takes place in near future. And the Communist army is sort of a militia, not officially formed by countries, but originated in.

And Cross Bones, you read my mind. I was inspired by the Operation Acherage download of Fallout 3 lol.

Hi knm128,

I've written a few games, almost done with one novel, started two others and have jotted down at least a dozen or so walkthroughs of possible games I could make, so I know a bit about creating a story.

I like to use the snowflake method when writing a story. Just substitute the word "game" where you see the word "novel" in the above link. The process is the same.

I start out with an idea that fits in one sentence. That's what your game is about. Then expand that idea into 3 paragraphs. Now you have the beginning, middle and end of your game. Next, write a small paragraph for each major part of the story that comprises each of the three parts. Those are your levels. And so on. You should then have a good outline for your game. Now the easy part is over - get cracking on building the game you just outlined.

Good luck!
