How do you preserve the layers when saving as a pdf from Photoshop?

I know how to save as pdf but I have many layers I want to turn on / off when printing from the pdf but I can't find how to keep the multiple layers.

Either my search criteria is useless or I'm thicker than a blue whale's tongue as all my searches show "how to save as a pdf" which I know how but it flattens the image and doesn't preserve the layers.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Layers are stored in PSD, I'm not sure they are stored in PDF. You would need to save both.

EDIT: Apparently since Abode 6 you can have layered PDF. You have to Scripts/ export Photoshop layers to files, then Automate PDF Presentation.

Automate PDF Presentation was removed in CS5, so you might need an older version of Photoshop. I hope you have CS3.

I still use CS3, but probably it is the same thing. First make sure that you check the "layers" caption in the first save dialog screen. Now in CS3 at the next dialog screen there is another caption saying Preserve Photoshop editing capabilities, if there is still in CS5 make sure to check that too. At "Adobe pdf preset" make sure again to select high quality print or press quality, just to be sure.
