I'm wondering about how possible it is for external programs to alter DB variables in real-time, and fetch their data . Think automatic player. Any information on this would be appreciated. Cheers!

I just tried using a memory monitoring app, and could find the locations of a given variable (by searching for it's value) but changing that value seemed to have no effect :/.

dont know what you mean but to parse data from one program to another you could use the clipbord for that

Specs: AMD Athlon 1800, 256 DDRRam 266mhz, 80GB HD 7200rmp U133, Geforce 4 Ti4400 128mb ddr sdram

You could use the clipboard as suggested.

Also you could use the registry.

You could load/exit each application and pass command parameters with cl$().

You could create a text file from each app for a list of changes and then read it in.

Unfortunately there is no Arexx port on Windows that I am aware of, so actual live communication between programs is not just a matter of a simple script like in the days or *cough* toy computers. What we have instead is the verbosity of Windows. I'm not bitter though

why not use MSMQ as a message repository, than the apps could get messages sent between them, or more precisely each app would have a specific Private Queue that it would monitor for messages. You would need a dll for this and be aware that .NET messages are serialized into XML. I have a dll (com) but you cant use it in DBP. Look up MSMQ on msdn.microsoft.com if you are not already familar with it's uses

btw - the apps don't have to be Local to use MSMQ. anywhere on a network as long as the machines can "see" each other.

I do a ton of MSMQ programming in vb6 and .NET for work so if you need any help just post up

I was under the impression that you needed a WinNT/2K/XP OS for message queues to work, but I've never used them myself

Another way to share data between apps may be to use a memory-mapped file

yes MSMQ requires NT,2K, or XP (don't recommend nt tho)
