If I have an image that I use for Terrain and black is lowest and white highest what determines:

1.) The max height the terrain will be? So far my terrains look flat with a little bit of height.

2.) The overall size the end terrain will be? I played with pixel dimension and it made a little difference but if I want a huge terrain map it would have to be gigantic?

Sorry to say this, but the terrain commandset is next to useless. You cannot easily change the terrain size and you cannot set the height.

In addition you cannot multitexture, bump map or do anything useful with them at the moment.

I suggest that if you need terrains, either use matrixes or use an X object.

Hmm, I did try laying many terrains next to each other, which sort of worked... but it it also led to the discovery that the level of detail is not related to the terrain distance from camera, but the distance of camera from ground zero ! Terrains 'need a little work ' , as they say.
