I was trying to learn from the... er um... masters? to get some ideas for simple games.

First thing, that font that every game Atari 2600 game uses... If there a freeish font or technique around that I can use to simulate that font?

Also, The 2600 version of Asteroids has this beautiful low resolution quantization effect as the low resolution sprites move around the screen. Has anyone does any work in simulating low resolution fonts in DBPro?

Also I suggest this as an exercise for would be game makers, it has really lowered my expectations on what a simple game could be. For example, I played Outlaw for about an hour with my son. Just wow, what an amazing game for its simplicity.

One of the things that impressed me so much about the old 2600 was the fact that the programmers had to stuff whatever the game was into a mere 4Kb of space. Four K. That's it. That's all you had. Imagine writing a game that had to fit in a mere 4K of memory. These days it's hard to find a decent game that work with less than a gig on board. How times have changed.

It compiled! Ship it!

You save a lot of memory making your graphics with 2 colour bitmaps.
