There is a very easy way to do this.
Use the scancode() command.
With this small program you can get the key codes.
do
cls
set cursor 100,100
print scancode()
loop
end
After this you can put it in your program like this.
Use the Keystate( keycode )
// 23 = I of i is pressed.
if keystate(23)=1 and modelinfo=0 and keypress=0
modelinfo=1
keypress=1
endif
if modelinfo=1 then gosub toonmodelinfo
// No key is pressed
if scancode()=0 then keypress=0
