LATEST PIC BELOW!

This is ALIEN AWARE. I'll call it an adventure/action type game.

The engine is halfway there - then I need to design the levels. So
this is just a test level design for the science laboratory zone.

Any comments are welcome!
To whom it may concern - Any chance of the closing date being pushed back a month?!

megaton: made the levels in cartshop. The only thing i could get to work. Had problems with cam-collision (couldnt waste time perfecting it!) so that is why i chose to take the neverwinternights viewpoint.

red-eye: purply cubes are test objects - they are dummies that i'm using to test the engine (for picking up/dropping/attacking/absorbing/AI/etc)- they will be replaced by modelled objects in the end.

cheers for your comments - check back for progress shots! (Can't imagine i'll finish this in time, though... ) Last game i finished was about 8-10 years ago on an atari st and that took 2 years on and off!

You worked on STOS???

Nice concept and graphics, but be careful to don't run out of time!!

@ Megaton

Eh eh! what kind of a game you've to make with this alien to use 100% of the time??? a 3d fps or a 3d action game. Not tetris, not a flight simulator or a platform game and so on.

We will have 90% of the game like this. and my entry is a fps.

do u mean if we have to use the alien for 100% ofthe game? Well I guess, maybe he can be a sidekick that follows ur main character around.

@Jasonio: yes my is neverwinter style camera too, with similar control and levels. But I did get the cam collision to work, but liked the isometric like-viewport better. Anyway, good luck, u better finish it man

OK...so what happens when 2 entries have the same name?

I don't mind...I registered the name of my game as Alien Aware when the entry page went up, just wonder what would happen if they put completed games up for download, and they are called the same!

OK - THIS IS WHAT THE GAME IS ABOUT - THIS IDEA IS COMPLETELY MY OWN AND HAS BEEN DEVELOPED IN A LITTLE NOTEBOOK OVER THE PAST 1-2 MONTHS - (started programming it on - 24/09/2003):

A puzzle-based action adventure game.
As an alien captured by the military after your saucer crashed during an observation mission, you must escape. Everytime a computer player sees you the belief in your existence goes up - if it gets too high then ALIENS WILL BECOME REAL- and your race will face charges of interfering with primative cultures and could even be expelled from the galactic council (bit like star trek)!

At the end you must leave the earth in the rescue ship without a trace of evidence of your existence remaining! Th other reason it's called "Alien Aware" is because if uses stealth (morphong into inanimate objects as camoflage) and a kind of sixth sense/memory erasing as game/combat dynamics. (NO KILLING! THESE ALIENS ARE TOO SOPHISTICATED...)

I will finish this (in the end!) but my life has suddenly got complicated - I have to move house in 3-4 weeks... So I have to run about looking for flats...

P.S: If I get any requests for more detail...I'll happily ablidge!

Looks like a great start Jasonio.(Hopefully you won't need that extra month to finish )

Sounds like a original idea for a game, and should be one of a kind for this competition.(No need to go into depth, I rather let it be a surprise)

All good ideas need time and ability to be coded and drawed, the most of the times they remains only in the heads of the programmers, due for the lack of time or abilities.

Best wish Jasonio, your game sound good enough to battle for the pole.

PROGRESS PICS:
The first pic is the transformation sequence - eg: Alien turning into plant pot, in the botanical zone! It's kind of inspired by the FFantasy spell casting in battles...

The second shot is of the beginning of the combat sequence. The white beam is the beam that paralyses your enemy before you try
to wipe its mind - took ages to get it draw exactly between the alien and target no matter where you stand... It works now! It's two plains created realtime in a cross (+) so that no matter what angle you view it from, it looks the same - will be animated and textured differently in final release...
You dont have to face then target to shoot it.

I'm positive now that I should have a complete first level as a submission for the competition.

Comments welcome.

no need! it's just simple tricks! The firey effect was two different sized cylinders rotating in opposite directions with a yellow firey map(see below):

I hope you'll be able to finish this one for the competition.

WAIT, what am I thinking? Do I want to decrease my chance of winning even more? (lol j/k)
-------------------
Anyways...

You have some really nice and simple effects going on. These little touches are what I think will win the competition. Plus, you've got a nice setting for your game. Simple&Sweet.

- Outdoor maps for outdoor level - 50% done.
- combat "halo"
- combat with two targets...lightning texture...

Likely-hood of finishing = 35% (depends if my dad lets me upgrade and use his computer over xmas... I must be nuts... )

Very nice work jason, keep it up. Is the lightning animated? If so how did you animate it, it's looking real good. The halo too btw.

I have three slightly different maps and alternate between them randomly. using delete object and make object plain over and over again - each time the right angle and length to go from the alien and the target!

Bit that scares me the most? - animating some new characters...
I need a soldier and a scientist! Might use the dark matter ones...Any offers/donations welcome?!
