Hi

well im working on a MMORPG (Not my first game) which is a FPS. I got a nice feature in my game which is climbing and you pick where ou put your hands to climb allowing the player to get better by acarly getting better at doing it, but I can't come up with the right formule to make it work corretly.

The climb bricks item numbers is 24 to 33 which I got "Climb" to repersent. I then got the hand to check if it colide with the climbing items. The left arm is put on a block by pressing Q whistle coliding with it. This is the same for the right hand with E. I then made it check which is higher up ( righthand=<lefthand etc ) so that the player go as high as they can. Can some please tell me where im going wrong.

Thanks for reading

i have a question for you. your model animations are inside the .x model it self? or you making the animations in real time by adjusting the bones in your code?

It would be good if you choose the next rock with the mouse coordinates. Then give each rock a hidden grip setting. Then also use the feet. Click hand, click rock, click foot, click rock, add up the grip of 4 locations, hand slides off rock, add up grip of 3 locations. If grip < support then gosub fall.

...kind of thing.

hi Pincho Paxton that what I wanted to do but so you can easily change where your hand is with ease by having them diffrent keys but having feet as well will make it take to much time and chacing wouldn't be as intresting plus people would get bored climbing moutians but you have got the idea of what im trying to do. Could you please suggest a way of doing this which dosn't inculde writting out collision and height of were you go to if you use that rock. thanks again.

Sergey

It gets boring just watching animations of people climbing up walls and allowing the player to sit back and press a key like in assassin creed with the odd jump button being pressed here and there. I want it so you feel you accomplished something and that you have to think of were to go next and you also can improve upon it making you want to do it more and have interesting events in-game like being chased through the town by other players and then climb over walls and jump building to building getting away with more interactivity for the player so the climbing doesn’t take you out of the experience so much.

Well with the animation thing I was thinking of having a set one and having it so there a few diffrent ones allowing for me to place them at diffrent places but O do like the sound of a bone one in code. If you could show me how or give me a example I would love to see/read it.

You could put little cubes up the wall. Get the hand limb location, and the cube location, and a distance formula from hand to cube. Move the hand to the cube location.

The cubes need to be numbered numerically upwards. The bottom cube = 1, and the top cube = 30+whatever. Make sure that the hand is moving from a low number to a higher number. Place the cubes on the surfaces that stick out the most to make it look realistic, then hide them.

yea I got the cubes up the wall and they look pretty good. How do you make a limb, I got all the rest ready to go. Thanks again.

I also got a pic of what it looks like.

You can make a hand in a modelling package. You can then add it to a model as a limb. With a forearm, and other arm parts you can make them work together so that they follow one another. Move the hand, and the rest follow. It's a bit of programming that requires a few tests to get the angles right. I'm not very good at rigging models so I would make 6 hands that gradually grip, and switch models to create an animation.
