OK I don't want to sound stupid here but I think I have a lot to learn! I have had FPSC forever but have done little with it. I can make things with stock stuff and run around shooting and all that. I have been trying to go through Nickydudes guides and work the tutorials and I have learned that to get deep into FPSC and do something good will require scripting and a lot of self made entities and segments and textures to make the game the way you want it.

I set up a small 2 room level to use with the tutorials and I don't know how to have it use a script that I made. I know what I want to know but don't know how to say it. Do I just go and hack up the stock scripts? I don't want to lose those! Is there a file structure I need to set up and copy all the stock scripts to and then edit them? If there is 3 different scripts that can be used with say a door or light how do I tell the level which one to use? How do I attach the script I want to use to that entity?

Thanks in advance I hope this does not sound stupid!!! I will be searching the forums and manual to see if I can find my answers!!!

what does your script do, or is supposed to do? what are you applying the script to? no need to get rid o the stock scripts.

I'm familiar with this, but I'm still learning!

I made a health station script that is in the guide, does it automatically go to that health station entity? If I made my own health entity how would I get it to work with my script?

I am thinking I need to set up a file structure in my game folder or do I just put everything in the user folders and my games folder that are in the main FPSC folder?

Scripts are located in the scriptbank folder and are in a .fpi format. For making your scripts I recommend using FPI Editpad.
To use the scripts you made, just rightclick the entity or triggerzone, click the button next to the word 'main' and select your script. After that, simply save the changes!
I hope this helps.

In addition to the tip from A Dude, consider the fact that the scriptbank folder can quickly become unwieldy when filling it with custom scripts. Make a folder structures inside the scriptbank folder. Use specific folders for specific uses. For example, my GhostHunt pack contains many custom scripts…59 to be more precise. Because of this, I created a GhostHunt folder within the scriptbank folder. Within the GhostHunt folder is another folder named PickScripts. These two folders contain the 59 scripts. Organization can become quite important when dealing with many custom scripts.

By organizing properly, you’ll find greater ease in burrowing down to find the proper script to attach as your entity or triggerzone main script. Good luck and best wishes with your scripting endeavors.

Life is about living.

some tips:

1. Fenwolf is right, the scriptback needs a rigid order, just NEVER touch stock scripts or those from Model Packs (usually identified by a the Model Packs name/number)

2. If you create your own folders for custom scripts put a "0" in front of the name, that way they'll be always on top of the list. Since testing scripts takes you to the folder a dozen times per hour scrolling down will become annoying very fast.

3. For an entity to be able to play a script attached to it, it HAS to be dynamic (green in the editor).

It is better to stay silent and be thought a fool then to speak up and remove all doubt.
