Hi All!

I'm making a dungeon level where I want to place out some torches along with a fire decal that should emitt from the middle of the torch 'plate' so that it looks natural.
I want to have several of these scattered around in the level, but I have a hard time getting the decal in place, I move it around using the model inspector/close-up preview or what you should call it by moving around the decal with the arrow and pageup/down keys.

After many attempts a finally got one to look right, now I wonder if maybe I can 'group' this decal and torch togheter somehow, so that I can place other torches with the excact decal placement aswell? Can this be done, or do I have to go thru the same painfull procedure with every torch?

Once you place the first decal and get it in the right place. just click on it again and the same decal will appear at he same height. then manuver your view in the editor till you are more or less centered over the torch. place the second decal.

Something that may be a bit odd, but it works. take the torch and use a plank or pipe entity. manipulate it till its verticle and place it in the center of the torch. use that as guide to help center your decal. once te decal is placed, move the plank or pipe entity to the next location. I use entities to line things in the editor, all the time. I was actually thinking about making a model that is actually a measuring device.

I remember reading something about this not too long ago (something to do with adding a flame decal to a candle and a script was also supplied, I think).
It is possible to 'script' a decal (fire) to spawn above a model but you will have to make the model 'Dynamic' for it to work correctly.
Do a search on 'candles' and see what you can find.

EDIT - Found the post I mentioned above, here is the link.
