Hello.

I am very new, and have been just browsing these forums and looking at some of the work others have done. I am impressed but I wonder this:

Do most people use segments and entities that TGC provides with model packs or do people generally make their own?

Because a lot of the things I see are things I have never seen in model packs.

I use model pack / user segments, but I occasionally make my own.

I only use my own media whenever I use fpsc, as it proves to be a much more rewarding feeling and you can show your friends your work without having to justify using media made by other people.
If you are a talented level designer however, then using other's media can be well justified.

A lot of stuff you don't see in model packs has been made by members here and made available for free or pay download separate to tgc.

Welcome to the forums by the way

There is a virtual plethora of free/stock media to get your feet wet and learn the program with, much of it being very high quality. As you progress, you'll want to create your own media to make your game not only different, but relevant to your particular project. I've also seem some very nice use of stock media in new ways to make games look fresh.

That's nice. Being a student I don't have the time to make stuff on my own. I will try looking into this free user content however, sounds interesting.

There is a massive amount of very high quality free media available for FPSC, and also a large amount of very cheap, good value models too.

I won't name anyone in particular as I wouldn't want to take sides, but look around. You'll be pleasantly surprised.

It depends on the setting.

If I do a game in a scifi or ww2 media compatible setting I do use stock media.

If not I am forced to either make my own content or work with third party media

Make my own but that's just because I can... Otherwise the stock props are actually VERY high quality and considering you get what would be sold for hundreds anywhere else for free with a 30 dollar piece of software... You're making a killing

Cheers,
