Hello,

In the treeparty plugin demo , the nearmost trees become invisible when I move the camera forward. So I am asking you guys if it works ok - those who are using it and how good does it function ?

Thanks,

Hi again Juggernaut! lol

You seem to be investigating the plugins in the order I rushed out and bought them

I very much like tree-party. you can get a lot of trees on screen, with moving leaves and swaying trunks(you can tone down the swaying significantly, the demo trunks look a little ridiculous but they exhibit a feature) with just a touch of sway and wind the trees look really awesome.(make your own good ones with the editor, the demo trees are a bit crap, i dunno why they used such crap trees in their demo)

there is distance billboarding. gotta tweak that right or there can be jumping between tree state from bilboard to model.

you have control over trunk flexibility, wind speed, random sway, bursts of wind, falling leaves etc.

tree party too can be a little fiddly with getting it going, I always start with the blank default project that ships with it and then build my world around that.
Follow the instructions carefully. there is third party software to set up your dark basic pro project. but it is still a little fiddly.
once it is going it's going and works great.

I have occasionally had issues with some trees becoming black for no observable reason. I never resolved and it was only in one or two earlier projects which were a little excessive.

the tree builder is pretty cool and i got some nice trees out of it.

it does take up some resources, but not to a point where it seems excessive for what is being provided.

I personally find that the clincher for dark trees is in minor trunk sway and leaf movement for each tree, it just adds life to the tree models that is severely lacking with static foliage.

BTW I have quite a few of TGC plugings and am happy to share my user experience with them.

hope this helps too!

@Kezzla: Thank you Kezzla for sharing your experience as usual. I am asking feedback about the plugins because I do not have money to buy all of them. So I need to know which ones are more useful than others.

I do not know why TGC used such crappy models to showcase their products. None of them have good visuals and look like scenes that you used to see in 10 years old games.

What plugins have you bought ?

I have

So you can ask about any of them and I can demonstrate where possible...

I was thinking to get Tree Party, but aside from the sounds and leaves falling, which can be replicated.. the swaying is relatively easy using bone animation, but I do still have plans to buy it when I have the budget for it.

Kezzla, can you show a screenshot of the editor for us? thanks.

Just do not ask me to demonstrate the ones marked with an asterisk * some for obvious reasons...

I've got...

EZ rotate
dark ai
dark lights
enhanced animation
dark clouds
blitzwerk terrain
dark imposters
dark occlusion
dark dynamics
dark data
extends
tree party

and many more that are free.

I have used some more than others, but by all means ask away.

@ mr valentine:

yeah, I have tried to replicate the swaying in a resource saving manner, I find that even just a routine to sway static trees a few degrees can look cool however I can't get as much movement as tree party does. even my best routines chunk when put under large loads.

here are screen shots of tree editor in action

simple and effective editor. You then run the setup wizard for your project and it loads all the needed media and dba files into your project directory.

Can you guys please clarify how useful these are -

Dark Data $19.99 $19.99
Dark Video $49.99 $49.99
Enhanced Animation $29.99 $29.99
Styx $30.00 $30.00
Enhancement Pack $25.00 $25.00
Blitzwerks Terrain $39.99 $39.99
Dark Imposters $23.99 $23.99
Dark Occlusion $25.00 $25.00
Dark Dynamix $59.99 $59.99

Do they really make life easy or just of small help ?

The demos look so crappy and unimpressive that they look like 10 years old game graphics ! I want to know if they are really that much worse or something better can be got out of it. If so can we have 1 or 2 screenshots of great looking scenes.

dark data - very useful but can wait until your projects reach the stage of needing to actually store data. eg: world editor, or player save data.
it is a good and easy to use system. but not essential until later stage projects.

enhanced animations is also great for advanced projects. when you are putting the polishing sheen on your end product. To mix and match animations, eg walk/run while holding a gun or slashing a sword is a great time saver, you can strip the animation from the model and save just the animation.
you can then load the models without animation, and load the animation once, applying it to all models. very handy. and resource friendly.
I am yet to extensively use this plugin to its fullest potential but it is worth having in the long run. not necessary for low level projects.

Blitzwerk terrain -
this is a truly awesome plugin, if I recommend any of them it will be this one. it allows you to load a terrain from rgb heightmap and gives you the option of editing the terrain in real time, both height position and texture color.
it is the best terrain solution offered by the dark basic pro line. I highly recommend this add-on.

dark imposters is another plugin I value highly. You define an image size, break it down into equal units and each unit represents a 3d object. at distance these images replace the 3d model drastically reducing your onscreen poly count. significant savings in system resources are gained. I have not tried this with tree-party trees(as tree party has its own billboarding anyway). If you want a lot of objects onscreen then I recommend this plugin.

dark occlusion works extremely well on the demo, I haven't used it extensively on system heavy projects. from what I have seen it has a very powerful onscreen polygon reduction process. It is a plugin that I am yet to experiment with in any detail. I am not sure if it works in conjunction with dark imposters.

dark dynamix, I already shared my impressions of it with you, I do like it and recommend it as a physics and collision engine. I am yet to use it to its fullest potential.

my word is not final by any stretch, these are just one users impressions of the products.

I will see if I can bang together a little demo showing some of the plugins in action.

Kezzla can you show some of the editor for Blitzwerks Terrain as I have been confusod of how it works for ever...

Ifound Dark Videos demos to not work at all so I personally would avoid it... And frankly it is not useful to me and I simply do not understand what it does other than encode a video file... I have plenty of encoders...

Styx I find invaluable...

all of these plugins are just functional enhancements. If you want great looking scenes you'll need great looking media. If your media looks like crap no plugins will make it look any better

The demo of Blitzwerks water + terrain - Water+Terrain.exe does not run properly at 1680 x 1050 resolution. Parts of the terrain disappear
when the camera is moved to and fro horizontally and the whole thing looks awkward. I guess they have implemented LOD but it is not working properly as it should.

@mr Valentine

There isn't a Blitzwerk terrain editor as such without making your own(which is easy with the blitzterrain commands) or using third party height-map software.

you use a regular rgb height-map and blitzterrain loads it(kinda like advanced terrain)

you can then alter the mesh in real-time inside your program using the functions so it is very versatile. I make them so that I can paint the hills height with L/R mousebuttons UP/DOWN

you can save the terrain to a file and reload it.
you can also paint the terrain in real time and just re-save the texture.

There is no limit to the LOD levels you can use, there are also different blending modes for the textures.

you can also generate an x model for use with collision systems like dark dynamics.

there's an editor by Evolved and it was included (or maybe still is) in one of his advanced lighting shader packs

@Kezzla: Can you please demo of blizwerks terrain and tree party which you have done. It will give me a an idea if it has the same problem as in the demo or the LOD malfunction in the demo happens due to bad coding ?
