I'm just wonder what new BIG future/futures they will make avalible in this new patch when it will be released.. with other words what big change would it be from patch5... I'm just wondering If I should wait(and do some more graphichs) for it to come or if I would rather start coding the main game code now.. that is why I need to know if there is gona be some big change/changes..

Greedings to all

Yawn - please do a forum search BEFORE you post.

Quick summary:

1. Nodetree & Portals (Speed up levels by hiding objects not visible in scene - this will require levels to be contructed as many objects rather than one big object)

2. Direct vertex access

3. Lightmapping Commands

4. CSG commands - cut holes in objects using other objects and so on

5. Save Object command

U6 will be out around Christmas time - but that is a rough estimate and may well change.

Probebly a good idea to wait until compo. ends, so it doesn't mess up peoples entries.

true but you could always switch back to 5 if it messes your game up

i would be paranoid to upgrade until after the compo. I've seen uninstall behave in unintended ways. "Never assume!" my dad would say.

@ Rob K

the forum search is bad!

CSG commands returns nothing.

CSG returns stuff.

the search should use a method of GET not POST so you could go back to the search results easily and so you could save your search results to your favorites!

then the search engine could like at the query string values instead of the form values, everything would be cool!

could write it for you but your site is php. I only know ASP and ColdFusion Scripting!

@orv

I just did a search for "Patch 6" and it came up with a thread entitled "Whats planned for Patch 6". Seems good enough to me.

i do agree with orv... the search feature isnt the best out there... but another thing is how people name their posts... that is the BIGGEST problem i have ran into dealing with searching, many people dont put detailed descriptions for the subject

bad - help me!!!!
good - help, texturing .x object

CSG would be cool indeed but what I'm wondering is how is the texture gonna look like if you blow a hole in that door

From what I can tell, The engine does its best to wrap the textures correctly, I've seen a couple of screenies where it appears to work well on objects with textures such as walls, floors, stone, wood, metal etc. However it did look slightly odd on one with a face stretched out across the whole of the original object.

You forgot Bugs! err... I mean Bugfixes.
also, I'm assuming they will release info on the .dbo format?

Also, the Nodetree/Portals, don't these require some precalc? If so, how long loading times should we expect?

...any new info and gossip would be nice.

Last I read the CSG feature was not going to be a "real time" feature, that you wouldn't be able to use it to blow holes in walls or doors in-game. Am I wrong?

It depends on how you use this feature, but yes it can be done in realtime as long as its not too overly complicated and as long as its not static geometry. This feature only works on Dynamic Geometry in realtime.

For low-poly geometry, CSG can probably be done in realtime.

You'll need to ask Mike on that, but at the UK convention it all seemed fairly quick. With a lot of things the idea is that you will be able to manipulate the object then save it out as DBO.

No word on that yet, but obviously they are a major part of it.

hopefully. I'd like to see Bumpmapping fixed as it plays a major role in my game. (selfish, I know!)

and would it be silly to ask support for arrays in arrays? Or for typed arrays in arrays. Confusing, yesh, but doable?, wouldn't know.

The only thing I need (desperately) is the joystick commands to be fixed.

@las6

Probably a stupid Q - but have you emailed Lee Projects + media that bump mapping doesn't work on?

@Toady

What problems are there with joysticks?

Swapping between different joysticks means that no values are returned - see my Joystick bug report. Seems okayish with one joypad, but not with several - I've got 2, and can add another 4 or so...

Just to make sure I understand this correctly. This is like a boolean operation in 3dsmax?

Well, sort of. Think of pasting objects together, and cooky-cutting one object with another, and that's nearer to what CSG is.

Yep. For Cartography Shop users this is like the Carve and Hollow commands.

@Rob K

Not stupid question cos I haven't emailed anything. yet. Didn't want to flood his inbox. ;D I assumed the problem might be the same as the bug confirmed on the bug report board, but I'm not so sure anymore.
Actually, if you want to see the problem (cos it migth be something card-specific) click here:

Las, I didn't look at your code, maybe its an image difference because mine works for me.

I have newer DLL's that are not yet public and that are currently having some bugs with lighting and thats why I didn't try your example. See if there is any difference in what you have and what I have.

can't test it, i'm at "work".
It could be image difference.
But where did you get your image?
and could you upload the bump/normal map somewhere so I could take a look?

yeah if someone can give me space. I am not allowed to upload personal stuff on my work FTP for security reasons.

I can send everything to you so you can see what you need to see.

It works great on DBPro 5.1 with my Radeon 9800 Pro...
I have however moved up to Upgrade 6 .DLL's which makes it hard
for me to test things as the .DLL code for upgrade 6 is in transition.

No-one knows. Lee hasn't even started on U6 planning yet, let alone coding.
