I don't know if I posted this in the wrong board but there is no sound board(should have one). But thats besides the point, what i need is a program to create sound effects like footsteps, gun sots, reloads, etc. would i need to record samples then mess around with synthsizers on it? or is there a digital way of doing it. also what programs are good for making such effects. (im swaying on sound forge or gigastudio)

You can't really synthesise footsteps or gun reload effects. You need to record them happening. One of the best ways to get sound effects is through foley. A foley artist is someone hired by the film studios to dub over sound effects using every day objects.

Bones Cracking = Breaking a Cabbage
Shotgun loading = Putting batteries in a torch

Get yourself Cool Edit 2000 - it's shareware ....

Can I ask you a Question?
What is it?
It's an interrogative form of sentence, used to test knowledge. But that's not important right now.

...or you could just download the sounds you need. There are thousands of sound files available in both .WAV and .MP3. Just do a search on Google.com.

I'm using DBPro to write "Suger Free Candyland", for diabetic children!

Get a microphone, put it on the ground, and walk past it. Simple.

Always cool, Farmboy Kharnor was seen walking around with a long string of toilet paper stuck to his foot.

To get a realistic killing sound shoot a cat then slow it down or speed it up.
To get a a reload sound buy a gun and then reload it - simple.

If you can get hold of something like reason2 from propellerheads (http://www.propellerheads.se)
In the program are a lot of soft synthesizers that can really mess with sounds and generate really cool sounds, good for effects and ambient sounds etc. Also some of the sounds on the synth include screams, claps, gunshots waves crashing etc.
There is a demo version that runs for 20 minutes at a time.
You will need a midi keyboard but I think you pick one of those up quite cheap these days.

The best sound editing program out there has to be Sonic Foundry's Soundforge. So much it can do, plus the amount of .dll extendability its got. Its followed closely by Cool Edit, but Ive never used that.

ZEDWARE website coming soon... //END TRANSMISSION//

Sound Forge's price tag completely blows my hobby budget. ($399 to download, $449 for a box)

Any suggestion for cheap or free SFX tools?

Shit, Cool Edit also got bought out by another company. That's now $299. Sigh.
