Hi everyone.
Can I send 2 different camera outputs to two monitors so that each monitor displays the output from one camera?
Thanks

as far as i know... no...

i dont have multiple monitors so i dont know if my "theory" would work... i had a crazy thought the other day about multiple monitors... it would consist of 1 server application (main monitor), and 2 client applications (side monitors)... so it would be like a multiplayer game on just one system... the client applications would get the cameras position from the server, then adjust accordingly...

this is just a "theory" i have... have not done any testing... and have no clue if it would even work at all... but if you want multiple monitors... might be worth a try?

Yes I think it can be done. And what a great idea. My current project uses split screen for two players but now that you have brought this to my attention I will be using two monitors instead ... assuming it works ... I don't have the second monitor available to try it yet but hey... if this works it's worth buying one for!

Here's how I think it might work

I have a Gainward Geforce 4 Ti4600 and in it's advanced settings you can set up multiple monitors in one of three ways;
1) Clone (an exact copy)
2) Horizontal span
3) Vertical span

Using horzontal span. The desktop can be set to double its normal width, so, an 800 x 600 desktop becomes a 1600 x 600 desktop. Anything drawn 0 - 800 in the X co-ordinate gets drawn on the left screen and 800 - 1600 goes in the right screen.
This should also work for vertical span using the Y axis instead.

This should work. If anyone has a graphics card that performs a similar function and two monitors please give it a try and let me know.

I'll be waiting with a maggot on my tongue.

My latest project has no name - feel free to suggest one. Think 'Lunar Lander' with multiplayer, guns and bombs!

that might work... but then it would only work if someone had the same set up as you... that could cause problems

Thanks for the replys guys.

I wanted to do a flight sim where my other monitor(s) would display the left and right window views. I can generate all the views I need easily enough, but I can't figure out a way to shift these images onto the correct monitor.

Scraggle's idea seems quite interesting. Using a scaled offset could well work but as Genesis Rage says, it may only work with that particular setup. I don't have that type of graphics card anyway,(I'm using an ATI & a Matrox at the moment), so I can't even test it. It sounds like it should work though.

Genesis Rage's idea sounds a bit difficult to implement, for me anyway
Wouldn't the client applications (left or right window display for example) have to be running on a seperate computer? That sort of stuff is a bit beyond me.

Interesting ideas though.
Cheers guys

okay this is a bit overlytechnicaltheorystuff, especially when I don't know what I'm talking about but here goes:

If you can set your resolution (in DB) to be fit for that 3-monitor setup, like 3072x768, you're halfway there. Now, you can paste the images on to the screen. Or you could copy the data from the images and insert it to the screen buffer directly.
Oh well, anyways the key is in the resolution. There is no real way of drawing a image to specific monitor. at least that I know of. I have only seen the systems where the monitors display the same image (automatic) - or share the resolution range. 2 monitors use a resolution of 2048x768 where the monitor 1 shows 0 - 1024 x768 and monitor 2 shows 1025 - 2048 x768. Or something like that.

I took my PC to work and tried the method I described above. It worked a treat!!

The only negative is, as others have said, not everybody has the same set up. But I don't see that as being a problem and I will be using it in my current project because I have that set up and in my project I am the most important person

I can put it in the menu as an alternative option at the start of the game. So, if you have a compatable set up then use it, if you don't, then use a split screen instead. No problem!

On an alternative subject and WAY off topic .... COME ON JONNY WILKINSON!!!!!

My latest project has no name - feel free to suggest one. Think 'Lunar Lander' with multiplayer, guns and bombs!

Well done Scraggle!

I'm pleased to hear you got it to work. I shall be looking into getting a better monitor setup just to try it.
