by the way I used the search but didnt find anything, so Im just gonna post here.

Has anyone made one? Im experimenting with some rain effects for 2d planes that follow the player and need a top down texture scrolling shadfer for it. I know there are decals in the entitybank but that is not what I am looking for. I also have seen bonds animated texture shader but I feel that the rain would look rather choppy if I did that.

Btw, I heard that 1.20 has video textures, is it true? maybe I could use those, what format do the video textures have to be in? GIFs?

as they are video-textures they use video-container-formats (avi/mpg) and videocodecs (mpgII,indeo, huffyuv, x264 etc.... NO divx, fpsc doesnt like some versions of this).

i dont think the vidtexture is working with alpha-channels, so no transparency > not good for rain-effect.

rain-shader: take a look at the plain used in the "rain"-posteffect, should be easy to declare it as decal.

no, but the effect reffers to a graphic-plain to animate the rain (maybe, posteffect filmgrain and oldmovie do this, i think rain too). open the .fx-file and look for a png/jpg/dds it refers to. then follow path and open (if found) in a graphic program. you will see a picture splitted into 16 smaller squares with different images of rainlines. its the same with decals, so should be easy to copy into the decalfolder and build a running decal with it.

if i remember i will look for it today evening.
