can someone give me a good program to make models? (tried blender, too complicated though) I prefer it to be free, but anything is good

If blender is too complicated, you might like to try your hand a different approach to game development.

for what you can do in it, Blender is probably as easy as you can get. Not to mention its about the only free modelling program worth spending your time with.

well, blender has the widest range of usage of all free 3d-progs, and 3d-moddeling is overall a very complex field.

wings3d is described as to be for beginners, and milkshape is used by many people who think blender or the pro-progs (3dsmax/4dstudio/zbrush etc) are too complicated, mainly for creating low-poly models. fragmotion (free for a prayer) is good for rigging and animation and mainly for converting the different file-formats.
but remember that you will need a more complex one for rendering cutscenes etc., you cannot pass the big ones... or blender.

in additon you should look into a good paint-program like gimp/photoshop for texturing.

I too was a bit overwhelmed by Blender. But I followed a few tuts, and was modeling original projects after a few days. There are a ton out there on you tube and such. One of the best sites I have found for Blender help is CGcookie.com Check out the "modeling a low Poly barrier" by Johnathan Williamson. It walks you through it step by step and it's easy to understand.

If you have a smart phone there are Blender apps out there that come with video tuts, I have several on my phone that I will refer to once in a while.

My advice if you want to get into modeling is first and foremost, be patient. Your not going to make a detailed model on your first several attempts. Start with something simple, my first model was a med pack. Try modeling a table, you'll use several of Blenders basic functions like, scale, subdivide,extrude.

Trust me I speak from experience, stay with it for a week and see if your a little less confused. Once you get the hang of it you'll have a lot of fun.

I am actually working on a cutscene for a game. I am using blender to make a plane crash animation. I never thought Id get this far, but the key is forcing yourself to learn a little bit at a time.

Let me know if you give it a try and still have issues. I can probably whip up a quick tut on how to make a table so you can follow along.

I understand where he might be coming from. I use Autodesk Inventor 2013 for 8 hours a day, 3Dmax, Mudbox, and the whole Autodesk Lineup (we have the production suites at work). The models I make are over 15 gigs in size and range from 2500-3500 individual parts. However I cannot figure out how to draw a simple cube in Blender. It just seems backwards to me. I was able to draw some things in milkshape, but sometimes I think certain people are better suited for certain software or interfaces and YOU need to find one that YOU can live with and work effectively with (time is money). For example, for me, clicking the mouse scroll wheel should pan the screen. Not rotate or anything else, pan the screen. That is what I learned 18 years ago on AutoCAD R12 and what it will always be to me. Anything else will only frustrate me and make me give up quickly. I would be willing to pay $3000 for software that pans with the mouse wheel than try to get used to a free one that does not. But I'm getting old and set in my ways. I am sure if you learn Blender first, than MAX might seem like a foreign object to you.

If you're still trying to get a grip on Blender, try some of the tutorials from BlendTuts .
He has some great tutorials.

Assuming you have the student version, make sure everything you make is non-commercially used.

Word!

I would suggest to get Milkshape. Its very cheap and easy to use. Using a student version of Autodesk software binds you to noncommercial titles.

It's hard to believe you've gone and spent $6000 aud (price directly from autodesk website) on a piece of software you have preferred to be 'free'

nope I didn't spend $6000, My uncle have it and he let me use it in his pc, however what I use in MY OWN LAPTOP is still blender and I'm getting the hang of it..
and I would never buy anything that expensive dude, are you kidding me?! I'm not rich!
