a friend of mine has begun recording some of his many, many songs (he writes incessantly) and i'd like to help him find an online home for them so he can share the music.

the last time i helped a friend do this was when myspace was the place to be... now, Reverbnation is the only site that comes to mind, and i've spent little time there. i don't think he's interested in trying to sell the songs, just share them, but it would be nice to have the option.

so, can anyone suggest an ideal online home for his music? if it matters, i'd say his music falls within the Folk category.

thanks for any guidance, here.

reverbnation is the go. I have my music on there. You don't have to sell it, just upload it and give links to the albums for your friends.

one other option is a youtube channel so he can embed his tracks in web posts.

Soundcloud, last.fm, bandcamp

Those are the three best that I can think of right now.

I know this is of no use to you to you now but I remember Garageband.com as being the best website to post your music, it was set up by Jerry Harrison (Talking heads) Brian Eno and Sir George Martin (Beatles producer). You would review songs by others and in turn have your songs reviewed and rated with the top song each 3 months being awarded a recording contract and 100,000 dollars to set up. It was mostly interesting for the reviews you would receive from your peers and its a pity its gone now.

You only have one life ... Abuse it well.

I recommend YouTube or soundcloud. I've modified this forum to embed soundcloud but Paul and co. have been too busy to push the changes live. Anyways, if you want to make music and have it show up on our forum, the only options are YouTube and (soon) soundcloud
