Hi there.
I was trying to get a star field object to fade in and out as night comes and goes yesterday. I made the starfield object in lightwave, a dome with a basic black texture with a few white dots on it. Then used transparency to hide the black. It looks great in the night but fade object has no effect on it so there are currently stars out 24 hours a day. I am using a similar method for the glow around street lamps and the the glow objects have exactly the same options as the starfield object (Ghost on, Ambient off, Transparency on). The only difference is that the glow objects are made with DBP planes.
I had a problem with P4 and fade object where if ambient light was off for the object it would not fade but now it will not work regardless of ambient light.
Anyone else having trouble with .x files and fade object.

If anyone knows whats going on here i would appreciate any comments.

Hmmm... I have trouble with "Fade Object" also ... I found that if I use the command "Set Normalization On" it alows objects to fade in and out better... So try putting "Set Normalization On" near the start of your code, or just above the main loop... well... i hope that fixes your problem... mabey you could post some code if you need additional help.
