Hello, I'm new to this forum.

I was searching for a subforum about TreeMagik but I couldn't find one, so I decided to post it here because according to site its a part of the DarkBasic package.

Anyway, I have a couple of questions about this software.
Basically, I'm looking for an easy way to create convincing tree models for use in a future game. Since I imagine that a program like SpeedTree can cost a lot of money, I stumbled upon this website and found the TreeMagik program.

When I downloaded and installed the demo, I noticed that when I started the program it would give me a small window (just a header, basically) that has 'stopped working' for some reason. After that, I tried opening the program again but with administrator rights (I'm on Windows Vista, bear with me) and this time it showed a black rectangular window that has 'stopped working'. After that, I tried again (without the administrator rights) and it finally showed the program. So my first question will be: is this a bug? And will I be encountering it more with this program in the future?

The second issue that I encountered was the fact that I couldn't add branches to my trees. The very first time I tried this, it created the branches, but when I tried to edit them again the program showed the message: "Branches could not properly be plotted with the given data. Please try again". No matter what setting I adjust in the 'branches' section, I get this error.

Apart from that, I can imagine purchasing this program if it weren't for those issues. I hope somebody can answer my questions and help me out! And again, sorry if I posted this in the wrong section.

Greetings,

I got that error if I try to place all the branches above the tree. Makes sense really. Try this:

@Green Gandalf:
Thanks, that seems to work! The program is still kinda unstable though... I hope there's a fix for that, because the program has a lot of potential.

@ Brendy boy: I'm going to check that out. Thanks to the both of you for your quick replies!

Okay, I just tried out Tree IT and I really like the program. Its a lot like SpeedTree actually.

There is one thing though: it seems that Tree IT can only export to .DBO or .X files. I'm going to work with a proprietary openGL engine that uses .OBJ. I've got Wings 3D and Milkshape but none of those import these kind of files either.

Does anyone here have any ideas?

I've had mixed results using that - it seems to be hard to get really dense trees and the roots are textured strangely. On the other hand TreeMagik has a few bugs whereas TreeIT seems more stable and the branches meet the trunk sensibly.

Well, I'm probably going to re-texture most of the trees myself anyway. The only thing that bothers me is that I can't export to .OBJ using TreeIT.
