Background info:
Smirkers was my entry for this year's Microsoft Dream.Build.Play challenge which for this year included a Windows Phone section. After winning the WP section, I've decided to port the game using AppGameKit

Description:
The smirkers are moody creatures. Your objective: Keep them happy!

In each level you will get a number of smirkers with different moods. Clear the level by converting all the smirkers to green so that they can continue living happily. You play the game by firing green smirkers at the other smirkers to change their mood. Colliding with a green smirker will improve the mood whereas colliding with a black smirker will worsen it.

A level is cleared when all the smirkers are green and happy. On the other hand, be cautious: if no green smirker remain, you fail the level and need to start it again.

Congrats on winning! That looks a smart little game. I'm sure a lot of puzzle fans will download it. Nice twist on the game style!

After being rejected (due to the all apps button not generating a response ) and updated to beta 8, Smirkers is now available on the Apple App store.

Noticed also that there was a drastic decrease in performance from v1.067 to v1.08, even modifying the code to render only 2D (especially when there are sprites taking the full screen e.g. background image).

Have you tried turning transparency off for fullscreen sprites?

Thanks baxslash. Got some time to test the transparency, and by just disabling transparency for the fullscreen sprite (menu background), it went from 29 fps to 54 fps on an iPhone 4.

Tried to remove all the transparencies and got a solid 60 fps, but now it looks like this :

Turning off the transparency will only have great effect on large sprites like the one used for the background.

Do you sync it manually like this ?

update(0)
Render2DFront()
swap()

This is the fastest way to sync 2d in agk.

You should try to delete the shapes on all sprites that dont nead them like background and sprites that dont nead collision checks.

You could also try to disable the clear color screen command.

Cheers.

@Cliff Mellangard 3DEGS
That's what I am currently using. Clear screen is enabled because it's faster than a fullscreen sprite and the clear screen disabled.

In the meantime, I've received an email from Blackberry (ex RIM) stating:
"Many thanks to you for making the launch of BlackBerry 10 such a success. In appreciation for all your dedication and hard work we are pleased to send you a Crystal BlackBerry®."

I haven't tested Smirkers on the BlackBerry 10 but they tested it and it works. Anyway, fast forward 1 week, and this is what I've got:

It's pretty cool!

Would have preferred an actual device but I am happy with it on my desk
