dbpro automatically scales images if the hardware wont support the size... like i dont think my system is capable of loading a 1024x1024 texture, so it would be scaled to 512..
but going by your sys specs i dont think thats the prob...

"radeon 9800 128MB"

somehow i think your card supports 1024x1024 textures.

i really have no clue what could be causing it tho. kind of a random question that might not have to do with it, but what screen res are you using?

stop looking at me!

Using 1024x1024 textures is really not a very good idea. If anyone else runs your game, it is likely to considerably impact framerate.

some odd mip map problem maybe? Ya 1024x1024 textures are a bad idea.

Unrelated:
James: im curious, whats your FSB at? If your duel processing I dont think its possible to get the FSB up high enough to take advantage of DDR 4000. And dont you mean 2x Xeon? Dual Xeon 1gz FSB is mighty impressive.. I must see a pic You got a vapochill or something?

No offense inteded but I dont think this is a DBP problem. I think those computer specs aren't correct and Its possible that you dont have a card that could support 1024x1024 maps. You can use CPUz to find out what you really have.
Also, DBP is only supposed to support DX 9 at this time. Also any Radeon 9800 pro comes with DX9 on the cd and dx9 is installed automatically in default set up option.

Please dont think that Im being a dick, I just dont want to be on a wild goose chase

yeah it seems a bit strange that 128x128 works but 256 doesnt. i did manage to load a 1024 image into my video memory but, as people have been saying, it makes a big impact on my fps.

the problem could be something to do with a limitation of your .x exporter? which program are you modeling with and what .x exporter does it have? it could even be a problem with the uvw part of the exporter.

im making an animated skier in 3dsmax, and i have a 256x256 testure... it looks pretty good in dbpro, i dont think i would need a higher res texture.

if you are texturing a static object, you could break it up into, say 4 parts and texture each one with a separate 256 or 512 image...

pc4000 DDR does exist runs at a nice 500mhz. But in order to take advantage of it you need to overclock beyond what that hardware is capable of. A 1ghz FSB is required and Xeons FSBs only go up to 533mhz.

im running a AMD Athlon XP 3000+, 1gb PC2700, 333fsb, and a ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb 8x AGP...

Dx9 came on the CD, and i have no problems loading 1024x1024 textures in DBP...
