when i tried to laod my project onto this old gateway (win98) it said, besides "cant make exe", that the computer does not support 24 bit color. i had the first line say set display mode 640,480,16 but it still gave same problem. is this because db as default has 24 bit color (it said hte problem line is line 0) and can i change this default setting?

Try 32-bit mode for your desktop.

DBPro opens the DirectX display before it runs any of your commands (or tries to in your case).

Either do as TCA suggests, or set your application to fullscreen-exclusive mode via the IDE

IDE = editor

Just click on the button marked 'Settings' on the Project Manager and it'll show your current settings

I am reasonably sure that is the error message you get when using DirectX 8.

umm try setting the display settings in the panel on the right (assuming you're using the default DBP IDE).. these settings are applied before any SET DISPLAY MODE commands.

stop looking at me!

It does sound like a DX8 problem, which, if you cant do anything about - well, frankly, your stuck...
