Hello all
We are currently working on an outline for a zombie adventure that will span through a website, magazine, comic book and video games.

Is this the right thread to ask for help with games and models?

Thanks!
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and comments.

I love that confidence, and welcome to the forums! Make sure you check out the model pack section if you need things, and there is also the "Models and Media" Thread page too, lots of great artists and modelers there.

But....
Why another zombie game? Not to discourage you or anything, but that seems to be the only genre that's popular here, and every newcomer wants to make those. But, if that's what you want to do? Go for it!

I know I know, yet another zombie game. We well be building a website to promote the game as well as have an online comic. We also have a monthly publication that we will be running part of the story in and we are in talks with a comic artis to produce a comic book to continue the story. All of these things will work together for the complete story.

I just started reding about FPS reloaded and am thinking maybe that would be the way to go once it is finished. I like the idea of it being 3rd person.

Thoughts?

Lee, who will be the lead developer on the Reload project, said any project created with the currect FPS creator will be compatible with the Reload version.

So that being said I would think you could still start your project now and load it into the the reload version when that is out.

Zero. That sums it up realy. We are currently developing a story that will span across multi platforms. We would really like to make some games to use our story ideas in. Small parts or chapters almost that would each be released as stand alone games.

Direct and honest...I like that!

Here is a hint: If you want people to jump on this you need to provide more details:

1. Games, Comics, Magazines? this sounds huge and rather unrealistic...what do you plan to do here and what are your ambitions? Who draws these comics and what kind of "adventure game" is this?

2. Are you paying?

3. What kind of help are you looking for exactly? Modeling, Programming, Designing, Sound? You need to be very specific here.

If you have your game design document, that would help bring you some interest.

If you need an explaination:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_design_document

Working by yourself without one is usually fine, but trying to get multiple people working on one project to stay on task I really recommend one of these. Also remember that official model packs are licensed to people not teams, so all your team working with art assets will need to all purchase the same packs if they are too be able to open the levels once populated with characters, weapons, props, etc.

File structure might also become a problem. FPSC pulls from the FPSC folder on your hard drive when looking and placing assets, so if person "A" does not have every asset in the same folder as person "B" you will have headaches trying to open each others work. The design document could layout naming and file location conventions to be used.

I will go over the game design doc. I like the idea of the product workflow.

We are located in Altoona PA. We are basing the games story in this area and will be using real landmarks in the magazine, comics and eventually game(s).

I have a designer that will make 3d renders of our local buildings, etc to make the game match as well as we can to our real area.

We currently puplish a small magazine for the area and have an artit that will be drawing strips for it.

Also friends of ours that own a local print company already publish a monthly comic for an artist and we are meeting with him about producing a second comic based on our story.

As far as the game itself, I am making bulet points for our writer to begin working on the story. We will be setting scenes for him and he will use them in the draft.

Pay you say? We are just getting the idea up and running now and will be trying to do fund raising etc for the project.

Altoona, PA?

Maybe the horseshoe curve train tracks as a setting? My dad was living there for a couple years while working his way up in his company. We took a tour of that train station.

Sounds like a huge plan, good luck with it! I hope it turns out as you want it to be.

I am using google maps to get a nce overhead view of our city so I can grid it out and begin designing the map.

I am thinking very left 4 dead style as far as city scape and zombies. I would like to implement a lot of features I have read about on the FPS forums.

I know it will be a slow process, so we are not in a hurry.

The grid in FPS. Does anyone know what the size ratio is for each square?

For example, 1 square in the real world would be 2ft by 2 ft or something like that.

Any help would be great!
Thanks!

Isn't it really 8ft x 8ft x 8ft if you count the height?

the grid itself is a 40 x 40 x 20 (in segments), so you can fit a pretty large scale level in there.
Plus your able to build a game 50 levels long, so there's plenty of room.

I'm also curious, Nova 6, will you be using your own custom models and/or model packs from the forum and website?

True, it would seem that 8x3 would make sense.

I am not sure how to make the game more than 1 level "long" but I will dig into the book and see what it says.

As far as custom and website packs. Yes. Currently I own about 10 of FPS map packs and I will be getting more as needed. We do want to make our own custom models such as local buildings etc. I have a friend that does 3d renders like this but I did want to ask how I would make them apply to FPS. What program is needed or what programs can you import from. I will relay the mesage to him. I am sure he will have specific questions for me.

Thanks for all the help!!!

Entities:

FPS Creator Entity Maker

This is the complete Entity Maker utility used to create all of the entities in the full version of FPS Creator. With it you can make your own entity files. Also included in the archive is 20 minutes worth of video tutorials on how to use the Entity Maker. The videos are in Windows WMV format, so use Media Player to view them.

Segments:

Segment Editor

We have released the FPS Creator Segment Editor to the general public. This tool was developed for internal use, but it will speed up your own personal content creation so we've unleashed it.

Download:

there are other tool out there like Firma, but this should give you a good point in the right direction. Also on a side not, make sure you have your 3D renders (models) in the .X format. cause thats what FPSC reads.

Some guides that may help:

You don't. You break it down into multiple levels and then you can piece them together when you Build the game. The smaller the levels the better, because they load faster that way. I like the idea of a zombie game, and I think it's nice to find a fellow noob (Even though I've been here for a bit longer than you) ready to make a game. In my experience with trying to make promotional media, if people have to read too much, they don't really care for it.

How about we not start pushing people to make a pledge just to receive help. People are free to pledge to TGC for their pet project, and it should not have to spill into other threads.

@ blackfox

i hear you and an apology above, i look back at it and see it was a bit cheeky, but i was not meaning any harm, twas high campaign spirits, but yes seemed hard sales, and yes i had hard sales upon me, depends on the hard sale way. i was merely trying to encourage, but alas it disturbed a wasp nest, and yes i will keep it to the other thread. not intending bad feeling.
