I made a simple little code, one computer (mine) grabbs its own IP adress then starts an online game. Another computer (my brothers) has a program were you enter the ip adress (which is printed on my comp screen) then joins the game. Then in game you can press control to get a network players check.

When i ran 2 programs on my computer it worked perfectly fine. But when I moved to 2 seperate computers it says "you are unable to join the game"

is there some magic command i'm missing here?

what os is each using? 98 family may cause headaches.
if nortons has a firewall running, it could be blocking the tcp requests but you can specify in firewall settings to allow certain IP addresses to connect. Look into all of this.

make sure firewalls (if any) are set to allow the other IP's to connect. In 98 turn on File & Print Sharing. From within windows make sure both machines can "see" each other (Find / Computers)

98 is a little funny with networking

XP & 2000 no problem

Can they ping each other? Are you sure you are using the correct ip?
It doesn't matter if they can see each other in network neighbourhood just aslong as they can ping each other and there is no firewall getting in the way it should work.

in 98 pinging a machine doesn't matter, you still not be able to "communicate" with it properly - 98 sucks a*s for networking
