If I create a DarkData database with one DFS (with various fields) and a couple of KFS, can I go back and add further fields to each 'page' of that DFS later.

Simple example, I create a huge database of items for an rpg, say weapons, and for each I create a couple of fields. Later, I realise that I would like a 'PurchaseCost' field to each page of the DFS (each weapon). Can I do that without wrecking the original database???

[edit]

also, do the DFS and KFS Count commands work now? (with latest version downloadable 19/1/2010)

aaaah, apparently if you have LUA/UNITY or STYX you could use external files like XML or INI which may work better,

I just tried for like half an hour, adding an extra field and ruined the whole thing, I need to reinstall DarkDATA lol

I am not entirely qualified with DarkDATA but I know Seppuku Arts has more experience in this area...

Try PM'ing him

@ MrValentine,

Many thanks for trialing the issue.

I may try SeppukaArts. I have another thread on LUA and RPG Databases. I am still tempted by DarkDATA.... Can always leave several fields reserved and a field open to define those other fields....

Very good idea...

DATFIELD1
...
...
...
DATFIELD5
...
...
...
...
DATFIELD10

But I just found a problem...
Will they all be strings? meaning you would have to convert everything outside this from floats integers etc unless you did 10 integer fields 10 string fields 10 float fields etc...

Hmm a tough nut

@ MrValentine,

Can't take credit for first part of that idea - came from someone else on my rpg dynamic database thread.

With the floats and integers, frankly, DarkData is a little less than flexible. I was intending to muddle through with all strings.

What, ultimately, impresses me with DD is the speed.
