I need to design a PCB for a school project, and one part is making a serial signal parallel. I need to use shift registers, and I was wondering whether I could simply connect the ground pins together, or that I should put a diode before connecting them to the ground, since I don't really know if current coming from an IC later on the trace could harm another IC trough the connected grounds.

Thanks for your help and I hope I've made myself clear enough,

Could you post a schematic demonstrating what you mean?

Ground pins of ICs (labeled "GND") share a common connection and can be connected with everything else that should be connected with ground.

EDIT: If you need some more help, you can add me on skype : The__Comet

Well, you've already answered my question
It was about the ground pin's being connected together.

Thanks
