As the BOTB / VBOTB threads are locked down, I have to ask: Will there be new judging rounds and Winners?

Into the Dark, gone commercial big time and gaining ratings like AAA games, is for sure the biggest milestones we had in years...

...I guess that deserves a new BOTB or VBOTB!

Let me guess:

Your cool uncle living in the woods inside a 60ies VW camping bus was visiting for christmas eve and gifted you some cookies that tasted funny but sooooo good, right?

ROFL!

Nope, except some glasses of red wine during preparation of X-Mas dinner I had no intoxication at all. But it`s exactely THAT kind of humor that makes the game great.

However, I did some research, and now lets look at the facts:

- 5 magazines rated the game higher than Penumbra
- 4 magazines rated higher than Serious Sam HD
- 3 magazines rated higher than Amnesia
- 2 magazines rated higher than Doom3 BFG
- One editor called it second best game of the year, only topped by XCOM

And now take a look at the FPSC chat board, where people still keep asking if it is possible at all to make a commercial game with FPSC. Into the Dark is the best possible answer to all those questions. And that alone would deserve a new badge for you and your team.

I KNOW the facts. But I would like to quote Wolfs wisdom here:

Quote: "I once mentioned that we need more B-Videogames... now that we have another pioneer in that section, the journalists are simply not prepared to rate it accordingly. "

As we have everything from 0/5 to 100%, this statement must be true!

If the judges feel it qualifies, then it will receive one. And there have been plenty of developments other than this one to show what can be achieved.

There's no problem that can't be solved without applying a little scripting.

I fully agree here. In all of the FPSC-bashing discussions I had to suffer, I always found and mentioned glorious examples of games that show what can be done - and none of these games was made by my team.

You will notice that a very few wield the multiple BOTB badge these are much more difficult to achieve as any additional awards are only issued if you raise the bar on your previous BOTB.
If he were to forward his latest game for judging I am sure he would stand a good chance of attaining the multiple and no doubt also stands a good chance of attaining VBOTB, this award is held for a year.

He already wears the shiny FPSC Developer Badge - The wearer of this badge has taken one or more of their games made in FPSC to full release.

If he thereafter gains any more badges he wont be able to post anymore as he will be stretching the page vertically and annoying everyone cos they have to scroll way down to read other posts

I'm watching this thread, so continue to post your thoughts in it. I'll be back full-time after the New Year, and will address all of this.

Also, not to worry about too many badges; you'll just get more rows.

LOL, I was just kidding, its good to know your still around Keith, you seem to have been a little absent of late.

Would just like to point out that BOTB is open to any who think they might have a worthy game for judging, even if you dont achieve it the feedback you will get from judges will help set you on the right track for any future entries, just dont throw any old game up there. If you worked really hard on it, its completed and got positive feedback from others in your WIP thread dont be afraid to forward it.
Read the BOTB guidelines for info.

I have never said and I will never say that I made the "best" game from any period. Thus I am always uncomfortable to put myself on fpr awards.

And even if I wished to do so, if Dani was right in one thing it is that the threads are locked anyway

I know what your saying
As it is, its the judging panel who decide if your game is BOTB, I do however think you should definitely put the latest one forward for judging, if anything its to show what FPSC is capable of and though I am of the same mindset as yourself concerning it I have come to believe we owe it to the creators of this program we use.

You dont have to offer a download of the whole game or even present it all, a small demo would probably do it in the case of a full commercial game.

It should also be noted for others that its not a competition and there can be more than one game given an award at a time.

Never thought about that this way, but I understand what you are meaning. If Keith re-opens the thread, I will put it up.

An announcement is usually made around the time to enter.
The reason I am keen to see this game (among others) entered is, believe it or not, your work is an inspiration for many around here.
