Sorry about the double post. I could not find a way to edit the Subject line in the first post.

Problem:
When I give my .exe file to someone to run on thier computer they get missing dll errors.
If you search their computer for the missing dll's you will find instances of the missing dll's in several different folders - so the subject dll's are not missing - just not found.

Solution: Have them put your .exe file in a folder of it's own and then search for the so called missing dll's when found just COPY them to the same folder.

When you run the .exe from it's folder everything will work just fine.

Alternate Solution:

Copy the missing dll's from the dbpro compiler folder on your computer put them into a new folder and add your .exe file to this same folder.
Create a zip file containing the files in said folder and give them the zip file with the instructions to unzip it to a new folder on their computer. Run the .exe file from this folder and the dll's are no longer a problem. As long as the exe. file and the dll's are in the same folder the exe. knows where to look.

In both solutions a shortcut can be made calling the .exe in the new folder so the program can be run from the desktop if so desired.

This has worked on win7 and win8 and xp.

If anyone try's this let me know if this is a viable solution.

make sure all there drivers and codecs are up to date... if its on there pc make sure they register the dll on the pc using the regsrv32.exe i find alot of times the dll wont register correctly due to windows being garbage also make sure when installing drivers and codecs that you run in admin mode even if uac says its off

as greendixy said, registering the dll(s) would be a more-appropriate solution.

furthermore, i think you should recommend that the user run Windows Update (which a lot of folks don't do) to make sure they have the most-current versions of the dll(s). doing so should also properly regster the dll.

otherwise, copying the dll is more of a band-aid™ solution vs a real fix.

add: the long version.

I understand it is a bandaid fix but it is simple and it does seem to work.

I just can't seem to get others who want to run the program
to understand how to do all of procedures that are suggested.
A few people I have given the program, want to run the program but are not real computer savy. They expect to run with out becomming computer experts (The don't know reg/dll's etc., etc.)
They just want it to run.

The dll's in the DBPro compiler folder are the dll'S the program written in DBPro wants. They may not be the most current but they are the Dll's the program is looking for and are used by the compiler.

Is just copying the dll's from the DBPRO compiler folder and putting them in a new folder with the program in question doing any harm? Why does it work if they require reg.? I need a way for people to run the program the way I would expect to run by just taking the download putting it in a folder and running the .exe with out thinking twice.

Do I need some kind of install program that contains a bunch of stuff so the user can just download and run?

If so trust me I need help!!

The only way it is just going to "run" is if you make a installer for your program that will copy and register the files needed. If the user has a old computer it may not just "run" as there system eather dont have the files or cannot handle it. Giving your program to someone and them saying it wont run because of "dll" or other is a good way to figure out how to package your program so later on when you do give it out again it will just "run" dont get frustrated it will happen alot.

As for installer there is alot of good ones out there one of them that comes to mind is by clickteam google it you will find it right away.
