I know this may not sound the best, but where do I begin? I was wondering what do I create first, a map, characters? And how do I load something from tree Magik or Plant life to DB pro?

If you can answer any of these it would be greatly appreciated.

I guess that depends a bit on what type of game you're making...

What you should probably create first is your design work; things like a workflow chart and pseudo code. It all helps save time and mistakes and work further down the line .

As for what comes first after that, well, I'm pretty new to DBPro so I've been taking a route of lots of small "proof-of-concept" type stuff. I'll build something fairly simple, often with "placeholder" type graphics/models and then write the required code to interact with it. I just don't want to spend 3 days going down the wrong path on something so I'll use models that are the correct size, with the correct basic proportions, so I know when I go back and add detail they'll still "fit in". There's a number of approaches you could take. I suppose ultimately I'd say map before characters, though possibly worked on in tandem. I dare say others would have good reasons for doing it differently though!

If you really are just starting out with DBPro, what you should probably do before any of the above is work through some tutorials. It'll help you get more out of the language and you'll enjoy writing future games all the more for it .

"where do I begin"

As sayerbloke said tutorials are your best friend there is a ton of them on this forum by some awesome people.

First plan what type you are making Fps / Rpg / Mmorpg / 2D / 3D

There is alot of choices.

Fps = First person shooter

no body just arms and guns at cameras x,y,z ... Can be third person with body but a bit more complicated for some

Rpg = Role playing game
Most rpg have to do with quest leveling up etc

MMORPG = Massively multiplayer online role-playing game

Have more then just 1 player on the level. like what world of warcraft does etc

2D = Game made by images onto a flat screen ( no 3D )

3D = A world you can walk around in on the size you can choose

So what i wrote above is where you need to start. Pick what you are trying to do and go from there. Me i am currently working on a open world rpg.

Here is somewhat how i planned

First i picked "Rpg" as my game.
Bought the "Plugins" needed. In this case i use unity for the quest lines and AI etc
Drew out my "Level design"

For making the level there is alot of choices you can use

Fpsc: Can make your level and test in it, And load your universe file
Blender: Free
T.ED: Great program great price.

Without knowing what you are making you wont get much help but this will give you a idea of "where do I begin"

Export as a .x or .dbo, export with textures of course...

Load into DBP by placing inside the same folder or a sub folder of the EXE location, learn to LOAD OBJECTs and then load the models, and then learn about SET OBJECT TRANSPARENCY functions, and also learn about the FLAGS parameters

Indeed, tutorials... try the search box below, not the one on the left, the one that says google on it, then type TDK tutorials...

Hope this helps...

EDIT

As already mentioned, tutorials can help; but some of them are dated and are simply not good. With any answers you fail to find, do not hesitate to ask questions, no matter how silly they sound.

How long have you used DBP? What type of game do you want to make? What will you use to create characters? Do you know how characters work in DBP?

You start with hello world.

You then produce a Russian roulette text game.

You study variables, decision making, you learn arrays, types, and functions.

You learn to get information form the user, input, joystick, keyboard, mouse etc.

You learn 2D Graphics, how to create sprites, how to load sprites, you play with shapes, collision detection, animation.

You learn 3D graphics, primitives, how to load models, how to make models, how to create 3D animation, how to play that animation at will.

At this point you'll not need to ask "Where do I start" and then talk about 3rd party applications. You'll be well founded in the basics and instead think.

"How do I design my rules" and then you describe them to the computer through code.

I've produced 13 hours of video tutorials designed to get you from zero, to producing your own space invader and pong games. Don't think too big you're just beginning.

By the sound of it, I think you should start with Pong then go from there.
