How do I change the icon for the compiled EXE. Nothing works! I've tried every suggestion in searching the forums and absolutely nothing works. DBPro just keeps saying "Cannot open file *.ico" Any help would be appreciated as my project is due pretty soon for a customer.

1) Make sure your image is no larger than 32x32 (I believe, might need to check that). From my experience, bitmaps and PNGs are also supported.
2) The IDE you use will have an option in the project tab somewhere that allows you to add icons.

If you are trying to apply the icon with code then you're doing it wrong.

.ICO [You can use a plugin for Photoshop, or use GIMP] or .BMP @ 32x32 pixels...

I believe the lower left or top left corner pixel is used for transparency, so just to let you know that is how the transparency works, but I prefer solid icons makes things easier haha

And yes, you would use the Properties tab, Application section and click the little three dot box that appears when you click inside the space next to where it says Icon, if you need further help finding this in recent DBP releases in the so called vanilla IDE, just ask away...

Maybe let us know which IDE you are using too... default or something like Indigo...

Seasons Greetings and Happy New Year folks!

1. Make sure that your file IS an icon. It maybe renamed jpg or like.
2. Open your .DBPRO file and find this section:

3. Place your EXAMPLE.ico icon in smae folder as your project.
4. Compile. That should work 99,9%

I tried all of the above. Nothing works. I am using regular Dark Basic Pro, no special IDE's. Here's the icon, 32x32 bmp. Try it yourselves (see attached). What optional IDE is there because the DBPro IDE can't even do a simple job.

If you do not want to use GIMP/Photoshop, convert PNG files to ICO (or ICO to PNG) online here.

EDIT Woops forgot to mention, Corrected that for you mr Handy ...

Works here, you are just impatient... Try to learn that coding is not a 1 minute pony... And you will do well, the alternative IDE is what I mentioned above... Try searching for it...

anon - I made this video specifically for you, you will require Microsoft Silverlight to play this, if you keep your PC up to date then you should have no issues playing this HD video...

http://www.akaneaya.com/tgcforum/VIDEOS/ICON_EMBEDDING/Default.html

Hope this clears up the ICON conundrum

I should be remaking this video sometime in the near future and include it as part of my YouTube Edition EEVs...

I have a bit of a cold, so I was trying not to cough and such so my voice sounds a bit odd maybe lol...

Hope this helps...

Apart from that though, nice vid.

The .ico files gave you a white/black background because you didn't add transparency to the images, as you stated in the very end of the video.

haha yeah I rushed the video and actually that was take two... [no not the developers lol]

But yeah you can use a transparent ico file...

Thank you TheComet I was afraid nobody would even watch the video...

But you can embed them

I hope it is helpful for its purpose

EDIT

Oooooh sorry... I think it is embedded when you use the MEDIA option... I should change that now that I no longer use that method...

Also as SPP is getting an upgrade soon!

Microsoft Paint can open a bitmap and save it as a proper icon (with restrictions, of course).

Quote: "DBPro just keeps saying "Cannot open file *.ico""

Quote: "Here's the icon, 32x32 bmp."

An icon file is a special graphic format file, like bmp or jpg, it is not a small picture that you call "an icon".

Although, to prevent your next thread - a CURSOR is an small picture (usually an arrow) that represents mouse device position relative to screen. To add custom cursor to your app you need special *.cur (cursor) file, it is a special graphic format file too. It can be animated and contains extra data like "action point".

You can try this FREE software: http://www.awicons.com/ for ico and cur files.
