Hey gang, long time no see!

So, I decided to fire up FPSC to make some arena maps for a LAN party my friends and I are having this summer. There's just one problem... when I test maps, and run around for a bit, sounds start to quickly repeat themselves on an infinite loop. Doors will sound like they're opening infinitely. Guns sound like I'm picking them up and reloading them constantly, and if I fire a single shot, that shot will repeat forever. It only seems to happen on maps with water; I took a baseball bat and switched its script with water so I could have some, but then blam, the sounds refuse to stop repeating no matter what I do.

I can't tell if it's an issue with FPSC, the map, the script, or my soundcard. I haven't been on TGC's forums in a while, so I'm sharing my newest PC's specs just to be on the safe side:

Mobo: ASRock Extreme4 990FX
Video: Sapphire OC edition HD 6950
Sound: Asus Xonar D1

The unfinished map I'm working on is 73 MB compressed, so I can't share it here :/ . After work I'll stick it in one of those file uploady sites and share it here. I'm running the newest version of FPSC (1.19) and all of my drivers are updated to their newest versions.

Hi ,
First why are you changing the baseball bat script with a water script the water script should be placed in a triggerzone so thats why you having problems.

Second try the new beta v1.20

It's an arena map, so trigger zones don't work; you can't change their scripts, unless that's something new that was added in the v1.20 beta.

Edit: In theory, this will let you download the map and see if it's replicating the sounds. It's a campy little map, the lighting is autrocious, placements are bad, it's just terrible lol. But if you open a few doors and pick up a bunch of guns, it should, in theory, show the bug. it seems to be especially bad if you walk over to area with the elevator (there are a bunch of windows leading up that follow it); the guns all throughout that section make the audio glitch, and the whole level bugs out until my game actually crashes. The last time it happened, I had to restart my PC because the audio continued to loop even after I had closed everything out.

Its a bit of a 'long shot' but do you have the latest 'Direct X' installed?
This 'might' be the reason but its the first time I have heard of an issue like the one you are having.

Good luck.

I do. I'm guessing it's most likely my sound card :/ I read some stuff online a bit ago talking about the Asus Xonar D1 having this issue with some games. I'm going to load the arena on my other PC after work today and see if it's happening there too.

Probably your sound card as I'm unable to replicate the issue. All seems normal here.

I also tested the map, No problems here. Sound and Water - Everything works great. I would say it seems to be a problem with the computer you are on. Possibly the Sound card.

You can try updating the Sound Card drivers and Update the Direct X 9 and see if that helps.

Yeah, I tried checking for a new driver, but no luck. It runs fine with everything else; I don't get this bug in any of the other games I play, just these FPSC maps. Is it that I'm running DX11 rather than 9? I don't want to roll back my DX just for LAN party maps, lol.

Also, I appreciate the help, guys! I've been away from TGC for ages and the community is still awesome

DX11 is installed you do not need to persay "roll back" just you need the contents of DX9 installed also.

Another thought is if your computer is a desktop, Go online a get a cheap low end PCI or PCI-Express sound card (depends on which one will function with your Mother board)

Thats what I would do, its simple and could think of it as an upgrade in a way and its fixing an issue. or In thought SHOULD fix the issue.

It's definitely my soundcard, and I just fixed it. For anyone that Googles this thread and stumbles across it hoping for a solution, go into your Asus Xonar D1 audio center and turn off "GX" mode. I have no idea what GX mode even is, but turning it off has resolved the issue for me, so woot!

@ Pain: I appreciate the advice! What I'm using currently is a sound card, an Asus Xonar D1 card. It's pretty cheap ($70 USD) but way better than the onboard Realtek audio I get through my mobo. Sadly though that GX mode is terrible, lol.

HAHA! Bravo good Sir!

Glad to hear it was something simple and most importantly (Free) fix.

GX is probably a Fancy Gem included on the "You Get this amazing thing with this sound card!!!!!! and no other sound card has it!!!!"
But then they fail to mention there is only 1% software out there that actually knows what it is.

Good to hear its solved. I will remember this one if I see another poor lad with the same issue.

Cheers have a BUR not Coffee a BUR!!!! thats better.
