Now, i know this will draw a lot of attention as everyone reading the title will think, "what is this guy doing!? Why is he offering pirated software on the TGC forums!!

Well, i'm not.

Recently, Adobe have decided that they just can't be bothered monitoring the licencing servers for the older software. It's too much hassles for them, so, they have put all of the older versions up for grabs - for free - with serials - legally.

I thought this could help people learn how to use this software if they were ever thinking of buying the newer versions and it might help to improve peoples skils.

I myself use GIMP as its open source i do NOT pirate software; but, i have downloaded Photoshop and premier pro as they will be valuable pieces of software when creating textures, backdrops and intro videos.

Grab your copies now.

I hope this helps a few of you out there.

Sorry But it looks like an admin error on Adobe's side you can only register to download if previous license holder. I haven't tried downloading the software at the above link but if it does download and install, its not legit according to this
http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-57562515-263/adobe-releases-creative-suite-2-for-free/

Quote: "
This service is only going to be available for those with existing Adobe CS2 licenses, which will be verified when creating the Adobe account to download the software.

The CS2 download requires you to first get an Adobe account and a CS2 license, then download the installer from the CS2 downloads page."

Of course CNET could be entirely wrong about this.

I have had a look at all of the links surrounding this and used my better judgement.

I went directly to the Adobe website, found all of the downloads there (for anyone to get) all with correct and working serials.

There is no mention that you need to have previous versions installed or have needed purchase this previously.

I installed and registered, gave all my details used the serial off the Adobe website and it installed nicely. If at any point i am contacted by Adobe to tell me that i shouldn't have it, i will remove it immediately.

But, the internet is split 50/50 as to whether they have made a balls up or whether its true. I myself personally think its true as they are making enough money from the newer versions (CS6) and it will be a great marketing ploy to get more people using their software; thus getting people hooked to i, meaning they stand a better chance of those people one day upgrading.

I am trying to find an email to email Adobe directly an let them know what i have installed and if its ok.

I will share my results as soon as i receive any feedback.

In the meantime, if a mod feels this IS piracy, i apologise whole heartedly and i by no means meant to cause any damages to Adobe. Please feel free to lock this thread if you feel the need to or i could take the link down?

In my opinion even if its an error they would have to let it go as its offered from their site, in much the same way as a store must give you product at the price if they marked it in error. In this case its actually easier to prove they made the mistake....again don't quote me

Its just hard to believe they would give away anything without a formal announcement....

I went ahead and downloaded PS from that website. It was their website so I figured it was legit. It is amazing all I did was click on download and it downloaded immediately. I then installed it with no problems entering the serial number. They asked me to register (of course I could have declined) but I registered anyway. I didn't get any other messages or questions. If I have to delete the app that's no problem. I already have Corel Paintshop Photo Pro. I'd been a fan of Paintshop since they gave it away for free in their start-up days (1991?). I still use Paintshop Pro v3 by JASC.

Of course, they have to do what they feel is best. The thing of it is. How is it that Adobe would be pirating their own software.

Addendum:

I went to the adobe.com home page. I then went to the downloads page. Of course, cs2 wasn't displayed anywhere. Only their latest products. So, I did a search by just putting in cs2 and enter.

I got a list of possible related links. The third found item was "Cs2 Downloads" as shown in the image below:

I clicked on that and got the web page that is in the first post here. So, anybody can get to this page. There are no apparent restrictions or passwords needed. Since Cs6 is the newest suite then cs2 is quite old already. Why not let people have and use them. If they like it they just might go for the newest available.

THEORY - you know everything but nothing works. PRACTICE - when everything works but don't know why. For me, theory and practice are combined: nothing works and I don't know why.

Hey hey hey! How about GimpShop? It's a modded source for gimp, and it makes it function similarly to Photoshop!

@The Nerevar

No need for that. GIMP works well on its own. You wouldn't want it to be something different.

This is for the people that want to use Photoshop leagelly, but have never been able to afford it or been able to justify spending that much money.

I'm pretty excited about this. I started on cs2, and upgraded every leg of the way on school computers, but was never able to afford them for myself at home. I know I will be disappointed at the lack of some newer features, but this should be enough to satisfy any work I don't want to do in gimp, and any vector work. Hopefully this is all proper and no issues arise later.

Just copying this from a comment on Cnet, but I'm not sure how reliable this would be, just coming from a random person that didn't provide a link to where Adobe said this.

"Adobe has admitted the error in the information provided. After the news got released to CBS, El Reg, Gizmodo, and Forbes, they realized the cat was out of the bag.

The keys provided on the direct download site work fine. There is no documentation in the process to inform you that you must have a registered copy of CS2 and they acknowledge that mistake. The activation servers are no longer online and the keys provided are standalone offline activation for universal installations.

Adobe's reps have said that they realize this was a bit of a mishandled situation, but they also don't have any way to track who has the files or whom installs them. They do not intend to take any action on this.

They do ask that you do not upload the files to other sites or post on torrents. If you're going to download the files, please do so directly form Adobe to ensure secure files free of any nastiness."

Cheesehead for life.
