Honestly, I don't see this or OUYA going beyond the niche market. These devices are to the gaming world what Linux is to the PC world in terms of popularity. Yes, open source and freeware is great but you can't convince the average consumer that. The majority of the gaming demographic are no longer geeks. In fact we're the minority now. I'm pretty sure this'll pave the way for a more open philosophy in the future but it's not gonna happen overnight.
Remember these are ARM devices running some form of Android. So the average consumer would wonder "why not just buy a Tablet PC". Personally, I'd buy a high-powered console if I bought a console. For now I'm happy with a PC and a gamepad for my console experience. Of course I'd have to see what games come out on these consoles before I can say this with absolute certainty so really, it's a little early to speculate I suppose.
Quote: "I like this over that clunky OUYA lol or however you spell it lol, this has a PROPER NAME not something some imbecile mumbled out in a meeting one day lol"
Hidoi! MrV, don't you think you're being a little harsh? While I also think it's a silly name for a console, is it any more stupid than:
SEGA <anything> - SEGA, wth?
WII - sound like what you do in the lavatory.
(Also, iirc, Ouya is a Japanese name)
Not tryna flame you so please don't take this wrong, just saying you're being a little mean about somebody who doesn't deserve it. That "Imbecile" is probably really excited that they are part of a dream that is coming true. You once told me you didn't like it when people were rude. How would you feel if found some game-maker's forum discussing Volcanic Adventures and somebody posted something referring to you as an idiot. Consider this for a moment too: That person currently has far more acknowledgement than you and I put together so, in their own right, they're more successful.
