Hi Guys,

Just posting a quiet confirmation of what you have probably accepted for years now. The DarkGDK source code is open source and can be found here: https://code.google.com/p/darkbasicpro/

For those that where not aware, we no longer actively support this source code internally and it has been made public so you can take the engine further as you see fit. It is completely free, with the only condition that you don't just recompile it as a new engine and start selling it (without chatting with us first)

We will be working on a spin-off of the DarkGDK/DBP source code for the forthcoming FPSC Reloaded project, but this will be done behind closed doors where I can safety wreck the functionality without upsetting people. There is a good chance that I will release this code once the project is complete along the same lines as the current DarkGDK portal.

If anyone is interested in becoming a trusted contributor to the DarkGDK source code base, mainly with the role of taking the best of what the community have improved in the original DarkGDK and adding it to the open source repository, email me at lee@thegamecreators.com with a CV and softography of your achievements in the community and we'll go from there.

I also want to add that it's great to see the DarkGDK community still so active, and I'm pleased you're still finding the language a useful tool for creating Windows apps.

If you want to keep up to date with my antics with FPSC Reloaded and by extension the new DarkGDK/DBP source code I'm pulling apart, check out my daily blog here: http://fpscreloaded.blogspot.co.uk/

How does this affect GDK.NET?

So we no longer need to buy a GDK licence from the store¿

Happy to be here

Mr. Bamber,

Are we going to see a new updated release of Dark GDK that will at par with the new upcoming version of Dark Basic Pro ( the one that will be used to create FPS creator reloaded ) feature wise, once the FPS Reloaded gets released ?

Mr. Bamber said in his blog -
Quote: "
Fortunately this allows me to bring the source code back in-house so I can start ripping it apart from the impending FPSC Reloaded work. Part of the project will involve improving some aspects of DBP (of which DarkGDK is the underlying engine) and having it closed source will help me focus on it without having to consider how it might break other coders projects.
"

Internally - Dark GDK Next Gen ( Mother Engine ) -> Dark Basic Pro Next Gen ( Chnild Engine ) -> FPS Creator Reloaded.

He will be releasing Dark Basic Pro Next Gen after the release of FPS Creator Reloaded.
But he has not confirmed whether he will be releasing the new enhanced version of Dark GDK too.

Secondly it is not clear whether the existing plugins for Dark GDK will work with the Dark GDK Next Gen version or do we have to buy a
new set of plugins for the same functionalities ?

I cannot comment on those questions, so fingers and toes crossed Lee has a look back on this thread, unless he forgot to tick the box >.<

Great news Lee.
Looking forward to keep on using DGDK for years.
It shows outstanding performance in Windows 8 / Ultrabook.

I have only just noticed this and think it's great news. Not only for those who have been working with DarkGDK for there own personal projects but also for the educational side.

Although it has been a while since I've last heard a mention on the educational side of GDK, I still think there is a damn good need to push GDK out there into the education system. For me it was the best step up from C to C++ in my learning curve as I could slowly add my own C++ stuff while still going along with programming. That would be useful for so many others too.

DarkGDK is probably the easiest and most visual way to learn C/C++.

The only thing that would be needed for the future of this in the education system is complete support for VS2010 and VS2012 as well as other compilers, GCC, ie Code::Blocks would be extremely useful. If this came about then I would gladly write up tutorials for other compilers as I've used that many over the past year or so.

I've not had a look at the source as of yet, but I am definitely interested in getting it into the education system more than what it was in the past because of its abilities.

(When I wake up tomorrow I'm on 'yet another mission' pweh)
