I have only used the 3D game maker before, along with some 2D game programs, and i would like to know if i should get DarkBASIC or DarkBASIC Pro. What are the difference besides the cost?....is it any harder to use?
Please let me know your opinion, thank you.

If you can afford it, go for Pro. It appears to be getting far more attention by the developers than classic, and will see the most improvement.

It's the superior product. More things you can do with it. More things you will be able to do with it.

Don't let the extra code fool ya;

I would suggest Pro, more power, more flexibility but still simple to use. The more advanced you get the more sexy stuff you can explore (like those lovely shaders).

Get Pro - you won't be sorry

If you can afford it go pro, most all new code and tutorials are being done with it. If you can't afford it you can really do some wonderful things with classic.

I would say pro is ten times better than classic, cause pro is in a windows evironment, it has got a project panal to organise your work and to select include media and its just way better.

if your not sure why dont you try the trials?

hey that rhymes

Pro. It's like darkbasic version 2

Faster, better, updated (directx 9), will be supported (darkbasic won't be taken any further).

You can always use darkedit if you want a windows environment in classic, but yeah, you may not benifit from pro's features at first, but you'll only end up buying pro in the end (faster, better features, still being upgraded). My point - BUY PRO!!!

Do you bite your thumb at me sir?

Might I suggust creating a restore point, incase something goes wrong. Start, then programs, then accessories, systom tools, then system restore. Then create restore point, and name it what you want.

This way you can restore your cpu back to the way it was, if something bad happens after the download. Whether you download it or not, is up to you.(Make sure your at a credible site. If your downloading directly from the gmax homepage(discreet?) then it should be okay, if not, it's up to you.)

i have not encountered a problem with DirectX 9. as for GMAX, windows always warns you about programs containing "maliciuos code". as yellow says, just make sure your DLing it from www.discreet.com

great. thank you very much.
...as for creating restore point, how does that work?....i just click start, then programs, then accessories, then system tools, then system restore?...will that restore my computer, or just open a window asking me where to restore my cpu to?...
(i am sorry for all of these stupid questions)

**edit**
i just figured out that i already have one set up. thank you, though.

Im pretty sure if you want to uninstall DX9 you can just install an earlier version of Direct X over it I may be wrong tho - I am by FAR no system expert

RPGamer,
I think there is a problem with going back. I think switching back is a nightmare. If you were really worried I would do a system and registry back up before you install. Though as I stated I have been on x9 for some time with no ill effects.

System Restore works here. Just create the restore point before installing dx9. Easy as that and it really works. Saved me from format/reinstall couple times. (not dx related)
The only big problem is that if you'd like to get rid of dx like 6 months after the install, it would be quite impossible. Most likely the restore point wouldn't be there and restoring to that would clear the registry, so every "installed" proggy would require reinstall.

Plus I think there are unofficial directx uninstall proggies, not just sure how wise it is to use those.

Keyboard not detected. Press F1 to continue.

Well, I believe I am too late to cast in my vote, but I would suggest going Pro.

You get:
- A nice interface
- VERY fast executables
- A nicer help system (comes up in a series of windows instead of switching the entire fluffin panels)
- VERY FAST 2D! If you use 2D, its going to be fast. Still don't know how they pulled that off.
- A free sausage and pepperoni Pizza

Be cheezy, Be a pizza.
