So i've been into Fpsc for a LOOOOONG time now. and i love it. But after so much time buildings maps / Games i'm tired of using the same models over and over again. I'd like to learn how to create my own models. but i wanna use a program that everybody in the fpsc community use. I'm sitting with maya atm. But maybe i should go with something everyone else use. I always wanted to make my own models for my games. and now it's time to react . So can any of you give me some good information on what is a good modelling program. and lots of tuts so i can learn. How to make them fps ready etc.

Milkshape may be easier to use out of the two, but it is user preference. I have used both. Some will say one is better than the other, but honestly it is the same argument as "Ford vs Chev".

Hi Tereith
Yes that's the right one. No it's not free, but for $35 it's worth it

i'm getting kinda overwhelmed but all the modelling programs. When i create a model i just gotta do the uv mapping And make the model fps ready. I have maya which is a REALLY good program. But it's a student one so i can't sell my models either. I might end up buying Milkshape start with that. But blender is free but what makes the best quallity Models.

I'd like to make some really nice Low poly ones.

I'd like some good knowledge on why i should choose which program.
A program many other people use. etc cuz i wanna start on it for real. Can i put textures on my model directly in milkshape ? for an example take a picture from google. like Make a ball model rip the texture from the ball and put it onto my model i just created ?

@Tereith

I use Blender for everything that i do, modelling, UV mapping, animating etc.

I love the layout of Blender and find it quite easy now that i am used to it. Plus, when using it, it does feel like a really professional product. I am surprised that its free.

I can't afford Maya, so, i am glad its free.

Maya seems like quite an expensive product to have when just starting out! How have you come to get a copy of that?

I just checked to see how much it actually is! My god! I don't know how people afford that!

I would recommend blender of milkshape. Like eveyone has said, it is a matter of preference, but for someone just starting out, Blender has a massive support base, and there are many more tutorials around for it compared to Milkshape, as Blender is easily more common, for a variety of reasons.

About which one produces better quality meshes, it's really more about your skill, than the program.

The quality depends entirely on you not the software.
Products like Maya are not simply for modeling hence the price, unless you intend to move into industry and want to learn all the other stuff that goes with it your wasting time and money.

Its what you find simplest to learn when it comes to modeling programs and if its a few bucks for ease of use then I would pay it.

I don't trip over...I do random gravity checks.
