Noticed there is an affiliate banner on the Game Creators website now. Firstly, it plonks a cookie on your computer. Secondly, if you delve into the privacy policy and go from there to the MyAffiliate Program website as well, it says...

Quote: "We use customer contact information to send the user information about our company and promotional material from some of our partners. "

I sure hope it's not taking my TGC login and abusing it

No, it couldn't be happening because we don't and never will give out your email address to anyone. If you post it in your signature/profile then that's another matter as spam bots can then harvest it.

No banner on this site can "read" your email address and can therefore never lead to email based spam coming as a result of your TGC account.

That's all there is to say on this matter.

Thanks Rich.

I have come across affiliate schemes before that do rip off user data. Not quite sure how it's done, but I think they use the banner code to plant a cookie that can read other cookies because it's on the same site as itself.

Sure, there are those all over the place BatVink, but even then all they can do is read a cookie - they can't actually access any data about you. The problem is when sites share user data. But we don't and never will, and if we ever did it would be on a "permission" basis! (i.e. you'd have to approve it).

Cheers,

Rich
