Just yesterday morning I found my dog Jersey dead in the backyard. She was 7 years old and had a heart attack. She was the sweetest dog you would have ever met. Any time you sit down, she was right there on your lap wagging her tail and giving you a sweet face. Every time I'd walk into the house, she'd be at the door to greet me with a dog toy in her mouth. She truly was the heart and soul of our family and I miss her greatly. It's a very difficult time right now because she really was just apart of our family and she was the most loving sweet dog you'd ever meet.

Words cannot describe my Greatness... But I'll give it a shot.

I am awesome....... Yeah, that works.

I know how you feel... Although the last time I lost a pet, I wasn't old enough to feel the significance of it, as of now, I have a cat who truly is a large part of my life, and I know that if I lost him, I would have a long road of sadness and depression in front of me. Best of wishes to you!

Tough break dude. I think dogs are far more sociable than people, and they are often better company!

Sucks dude. Sometimes pets come along that make a huge impact on our lives, and when they go, we miss them as much as we would a family member.

My mums pet dog is basically an 8'' high ball of personality, totally adorable little pooch (toy yorkie). He's not been well, I'm dreading anything happening to him because I know how badly we'll all take it.

You just have to think about how good your dogs life was, and how much they impacted on your life, and remember that a lot of dogs don't have a good life at all. That dog had a loving family and safe home, and was well taken care of for it's whole life, and that isn't too shabby for a dog.

I got a fever, and the only prescription, is more memes.

Sorry for your loss. I have two dogs and lost one in the past as well. I know how you feel. This might sound a bit harsh, especially since the loss is fresh, but taking a new dog will help.

Sorry for your loss, I understand that it's hard to lose something close to you.

Religious knowledge, now there's an oxymoron...

Thank you everyone. We are looking at adopting another dog, but so far it's been difficult to find one who could replace baby Jersey.

I know how you feel man. I had my Kelpie for nearly my whole life and he suffocated in my arms and there was nothing I could do about it and late last year my German Shepard died as well.

I'd say that my devastation when my first dog died was on par with when I found out that my friend I had since I was 4 was killed, no disrespect to him of course. I found it hard to sleep and absolutely hated going to work because even though he was a dog, in reality he was my best friend.

I've been looking into getting another dog except I don't think I'm home enough to care for him as much as he deserves so it's hard.

Stay well man.

I don't think that's disrespectful at all. Emotional bonding is very primitive (not that this diminishes it) and something we share with many animals, certainly other mammals. It would be arrogant to suggest that human relationships are more meaningful.

To some people, I could see them finding that very strange. But not to me at all. The dogs in my life have been every bit as important as my friends and family. For quite some time, I felt like my baby Jersey was all I had.
