I have decided to start over on my game and this time make it in dark GDK instead of db pro. In db pro, there was a "media" menu where you load media into the project and it gets compiled into the application. How do you do that in Visual studio? And how do you load the media which is compiled into the app?

I think that's only for Visual studio resources, like icons, menus and such.
There is no such DBPro IDE functionality, but Visual Studio & DGDK offer many open ways to achieve this, although you must control when and where.
After all, all that DBPro does is to extract the media files into the user/temp folder, leaving all files exposed.

I suggest to use dbWriteFileBlock / dbReadFileBlock

Since DarkGDK uses C++, you can use almost any C++ library, so your options are near limitless.
