So I've recently turned UAC on my computer but it seems to affect FPS Creator.

When I try to open FPSC while it does its "..Checking files for you.." I get this message:

"FPSC-MapEditor cannot write files to the Program Files area. Ensure you have UAC switched off and that you are running as an administrator user."

I am running as an admin user but I would like to keep UAC on. Is there a way I can still use FPSC with UAC still on or some settings I can change on UAC so FPSC can work or will I have to turn it off?

Thanks you for your time!

Yes. You can install FPSC in another location other than "C:\Program Files". We have ours installed in "C:\The Game Creators\FPS Creator" and run with UAC on in Win 7 and Vista. The only thing to note in Win 7 is that you can set your UAC to "notify me only when programs try to make changes to my computer (do not dim my desktop)". For some reason, FPSC loses window focus and crashes when the desktop dims.

There's no problem that can't be solved without applying a little scripting.

Thank you very much for replying.

So does that mean I have to reinstall it?
Do I have to back up my levels before doing that?

Thanks

I'm running FPSC from drive "E:" on Win7, and it runs fine.
The only thing to note here is that you'll have to replace FPSCreatorCleaner.exe because it refuses to run from anywhere other than the default directory the installer suggests.

Strange. Our "FPSCreatorCleaner.exe" works as it should where we install it. One system runs v1.17, and we have VM systems setup that house v1.18, v1.19, and v1.20. Cleaner works properly in those, and we do not install in the "default directory" (C:\Program Files...).

Just backup your mapbank folder (that's where you save your levels), and any other folders you have media you want to save (such as scripts you want to keep, models, etc). Uninstall then reinstall in a different directory. Once done, move the folder(s) you backed up to the new location.

The darned thing always throws a
"Program can only be run from the FPS Creator Folder!" at me, even after having performed complete de-installs and fresh re-installs
(so, if registry keys are queried for the path, there should be no confusion).

I was too lazy to trace where it thinks it is running and where it thinks FPSC is installed, so, I wrote my own cleaner (giving me the Option to do a few other checks, such as whether the Serial key is in place etc).

I'm positive that others also have complained about the program's behaviour in this respect.

The best option if you want to run fpsc in another place is to move it to where you want it too then unstall it.

Once unstall use a reg cleaner to make sure its out of the reg and you good to go.

cleaner works fine for me and my fpsc is in H drive.

This works for me but may not work for everyone else this seems to work well for me in windows 8.

I wouldn't doubt your words and will try on Occasion. Maybe, it's just "the other way round" for me: it didn't work for me in the past, but may have worked for others
