It was never alive.
It was a passing question to get everyone's hopes up, then was ignored and FPSC-R was chosen to update instead.

Well,

Lee mentioned that developing FPSC-R would automatically lead to an improved version of DBPro. I think TGC have chosen this route because it would ultimately lead to two sellable and 'empirically' tested products. Note that I'm not calling it DB-Elite though: there hasn't been any formal announcement of such a product nor have improved features been listed.

Yes. There is no DBElite, but there will be (a very long overdue) bugfix and feature pack released.

The only way you will ever see a Dark BASIC elite before the end of the decade is if some group of talented c++ programmers happen take interest in the opportunity and download the DBPRO open source SDK and build a big fat DBPRO upgrade; but sorry I do not deal with C++ so can't help much there.

http://code.google.com/p/darkbasicpro/source/browse

Quote: "Dark Basic Professional and DarkGDK was made available to all users of the software to pave the way for a new era in the development of this remarkable game creation system. Now you can drill down to the heart of every BASIC and C++ command, and discover precisely what your program is doing. Further, for those who are willing, an opportunity exists to make fixes and features to the engine instantly, allowing you to proceed with your DBP and GDK project without the intervention of the official team. Better still, you can contribute your fixes and features towards the official version, which will benefit the entire DBP and GDK communities.

The source code is available right here right now for those familiar with SVN repositories. For those who are unfamiliar with how SVN works, we will be making a tutorial video and step by step instructions on configuring a development environment and how to download and compile the code. If you have any questions in the meantime, or would like to contribute, email "[email protected]" "

They announced that bug fix over a year ago.

I think DB Pro its an awesome programming language, I think the business behind DBPro is not bad too so I continue to hope in a new era version! The price is not an invincible enemy even if will be higher than DBPro.
it would be sad if TGC will not produce a multi core and DX11 version damn!!!
