DarkBASIC Professional Discussion / Model has weird lighting.

Hi.

I'm modeling my character. to help joints bend better I put more faces near em and what not. But the faces near joints don't seem to shade right.

I'm sure there is an easy fix, But I'm not sure what this kind problem is called.

try using set object smoothing command

It did not work. It helped, but did not remove it.

What modelling package did you use to create the mesh? It looks like the normals for the additional faces are wrong.

Milkshape.

Whats a normal? This is like the second thing I have ever modeled.

In milkshape: on the right hand panel one of the tabs has a checkbox "update object smoothing" or something like that. Check/Enable this box. Then press Ctrl-A to select entire model/object. Then press Ctrl-W to weld everything together. Then uncheck the "update object smoothing" box.

Now export your model. This shall be your ritual for exporting models. Always do this before exporting.

In simple terms, a normal is the direction of a vertex.

The engine needs this information to calculate how faces receive light. In this context, the angles are normalized; their values are scaled between -1.0 and 1.0.
