Hello Forum!

I have an idea for a community project. THIS IS NOT A TEAM REQUEST!

I was in the shower the other day thinking about FPSC. Pretty sad I know. Anyway, I had an idea for a Community Project. Not sure if it were possible or if it would even be considered a team type thing, or a contest or competition. Depending on these forums and the vetrens here to help cure my own stupidity when it comes to FPSC. I don't want to anger the Mods. So I posed the idea to Keith after a couple of e-mails back and forth, I present the idea to the forums and ask for your input.

So here we go. What would you think of a Community finished game?
But anonomus. Ok ok Let me explain.

As I lurk in the forums you see forumers that have been using the software since 2006. Those users are mostly considered the high water mark of what Fpsc can do. Then there are those forumers who got the software for Christmas and are just learning how to use Fpsc. I had always thought about working with someone else on a game. We could just email our work back and forth until a finished game was the result. It would be a cool thing to explore, providing the right partner was found. Wait wouldn't it be cool if I had no idea who was desiging the other level in the game. What their style was, what their experience was. What if you put three people together, of varying experience and gave them a topic and gave each a level to design within that topic. But you didn't tell them who was in their group. You just gave them their assignment and their deadline.

Now I know there would be a lot of challenges with accomplishing this. Which is why I present it to the forums. I want your input, good or bad. In a way just posing this idea is almost a Community project in itself, because I am looking to the Community to attempt to form this into a possibility through your input and ideas, interest and help.

Some questions that come to mind?

Would it be a viable competion?
Would it be a Team competition?(Not a Team Request)
Would it be a free for all?
Would there be enough interest?
Would you have to use stock media or only make it open to users with certain model packs(which doesn't seem fair)
How would you complie a finished game among anomos users?
If it were a competition how would you judge it?

I suppose if there was enough interest and the assignments were given you could notify on person in each group that they are the "organizers". They will be the ones the build and submit the final game. The other group members would be notified at the end who to send their finished level to.

So there you go. I hope you'll agree that it is an interesting idea and worth exploring. If you just continue on and don't give it another thought, thank you for taking the time to read this post.

I think if you want to make a good game, one person must be the leader! For me a game must have much quicktimeevents or other scripts. Graphic is not as important for me.
So I would create a bad looking level with a lot of custom scripts. Other persons like wolf, create wonderful levels, but create less scripts(no offence). So we would create a game which has so much different qualitity levels.

I was thinking of this today. We must be on the same wavelength...

I was thinking of something slightly different though. I had the idea of each person making their own different level. Person A makes the first level and sends it to person B so they know what items would be carried over. Then they make a level and send it to person C where they make a level, and so on

Edit: Also, if this idea takes off, I would like to be a part of it

I've OK'ed Troutflies to make this thread, as I felt it was an interesting idea. As he's said, it's not a team request.

I like the idea, I'd hesitate to become involved as I've already got too much going on at the moment.

Just one thought, firstly someone needs to manage the groups, otherwise it'll get messy.. secondly, and I see this as very important, is that people should only be grouped with people who have the same offical/paid model packs if at all possible. (or at least agree on limits.).

Otherwise, a great idea.

Good luck to all,

For this we need to communicate a lot. I dont think that community can make a game. As SC said , without group manager it will be messy. I don't want to sound like pesimmist but this doesnt have big chance to succeed.

There are only a couple ways I could see this working. With one person to put it all together and others working on assets, levels, story, cut scenes, music, voices, etc.

Also, how would you handle models packs. Would it be all custom, free , community and stock media? Everyone would have to have the exact same model packs purchased. Also everyone has to have them installed in the exact same locations and drive letters matching I believe.

This is not impossible and I would be interested in trying or contributing to it but I do not see anyway of not having a project manager in charge of file structure, compiling design documents and communication, etc.

i think you would also have to have "try-outs" for different positions as there are 100's of people and only so many level designers you could possibly have.
