Not sure if any of you are being sarcastic but they contributed a number of soldiers in the fight against Japan. The war never reached Australia, but that was due to the Battle of the Coral Sea which stopped the Japanese spread southward into Australia.

I want to admit that in the russian primary schools WW2 taught almost before the graduation, so everyone do not care for history. All the knowledge at that time is: "Hitler pwned whole Europe, some English folks fought them at the Atlantic, Stalin personally shoot Hitler in his shelter. Win." That's sad.

EDIT:

I was not. But your question was misty.

I would still class Aussies as Brits, I mean after all, we populated Australia with our criminals, it's just years later they had children and their children had children and so on. Australia is just one giant prison.

Of course, I am being facetious, I don't mean it.

I mean, if stereotypes were real I'd be sipping on a cup of tea...oh wait. Nevermind.

And my Irish nan enjoys being a drunk little leprechaun and loves her whiskey. Damn these stereotypes. She's Catholic and is from the Republic of Ireland and was very political in her day...fortunately she doesn't live up to that stereotype, she's not tried blowing anybody up...as far as I am aware.

i am too Americanized to recognize UK, Australia, Canada or any English speaking nation as anything but America, even if you are that Serbian British immigrant living in Russia who i thought was an American. Its a shame that among all people in Russia i have meat that speak fluent English i only met a single actual American.

How does Austria related to Britain?

Possibly Mr Handy was being facetious about the abbreviation 'Aussie', if not, then yes, we mean Australia, which was once owned by the British Empire and it was where we used to transport criminals, though there were people who settled there and for some criminals at the end of their sentence (they were often in forced labour as punishment) they stayed to turn over a new leaf. At least this is what my history teacher taught me back in school.

However, the English love to taunt the Aussies by calling them criminals.

If you start splitting hairs about WW2 and who did what, then it becomes pointless. No offense, but a lot of Americans miss the fact that you can't actually, as a country, win a world war... if that was the case then it would just be a war. WW2 was a world effort, hence the 'World' component. It's not like your World Series - in this case world refers to the actual planet with all those other little countries . Maybe, we could say that it wasn't America that saved our ass, but the Japanese - because if it wasn't for Pearl Harbor, god only knows when the US would step up. I'm not having a pop at Americans, I'm having a pop at the attitude some people still have.

I got a fever, and the only prescription, is more memes.
