Hello, I'm trying to save up for the Microsoft Surface pro, so that I can do digital art on the go.

I am selling my Laptop on eBay here. All the specs and details are in the description.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I don't think it's going to sell if your starting price is $500. The HD 3650 is seriously underpowered for today's stuff. I'm sure it will make someone happy, but not for $500-800.

Although the price is steep, I personally think it looks REALLY cool. I would buy it for the look.

I've been told this once before, but it runs like a mid-range gaming machine. Obviously it's not gonna run Battlefield 3&4, or Crysis 3 on max settings. I does run crysis 1/warhead on medium/high settings, and every FTP game like Blacklight & War-frame on max settings.

However, I don't think it's worth much less than $500, because laptops start to turn into netbooks/tablets at that point.

Thank you for the comments though. Maybe lowering the starting bid price to $400/$450 would be more appealing?

[EDIT]
I lowered both the starting bid price and the buy-now price by $100

I personally would consider buying this at this price if I was looking for a laptop (I don't need one though), but you may want to update the description

Thanks for that

Also, I would very much appreciate it if anyone shared this with friends/family that might be interested or in need of this kind of laptop.

That's because netbooks are overpriced. You can buy a decent, new laptop for $500. And a new laptop would probably about 4" thinner than that giant beast.

A $500 laptop isn't likely to have all the same features as this (other than a slightly faster cpu at the most) and a 17" screen though.

I think the best thing to do is to compare it to current IdeaPad Y series laptops.

For $719 I can get, brand new, a Lenovo IdeaPad Y400 with the following specs:

3rd Gen Intel Core i5
NVidia GeForce GT750M 2gb
8gb RAM
14" screen (if I wanted a larger screen, it's $799)

Hopefully this should offer some idea of what you can get for $700-$800.

Then you can bid on it and get it between $400 and $700

Besides overclocking (on a laptop - really?), a budget i5 laptop has everything that that has. A mid-range i5 is leaps and bounds ahead of a C2D - the architecture is about three generations behind. Even the built in graphics are miles ahead of the HD 3650 (see http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/video_lookup.php?gpu=Intel+HD+4000&id=2 - the HD 3650 isn't even on that list). I don't mean to be rude or pretentious here - but old tech has very little resale value on it, and it's unreasonable to expect it to sell that highly, unless of course you get lucky.

That's the annoying thing, computer hardware depreciates in value quickly.

4 years ago I spent £700 on an Acer gaming laptop, which is now £250 on ebay. The specification of said laptop is Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0ghz, 250gb HDD, 4GB RAM, 17" screen, NVidia GeForce 9500M GS 512mb, Windows Vista.

Of course, I wouldn't use that as a reference for pricing yours because A) yours is newer B) yours is of a superior make (as a proud owner of a Lenovo, I would value it higher than an Acer) C) yours is a better spec. But it's an idea of how value depreciates.

I will likely vouch for Lenovo til the day I die, I got a lenovo laptop ~ 4 years ago, the dvd drive no longer fits in but that's the only thing wrong with it after dropping it countless times.

It even died once, it wouldn't turn on for about a year - this was after I built my current rig though so I didn't mind - and then one day I decided to try it again and it came back to life, amazing.

I have dropped my Lenovo a couple of times, I'm a clumsy git. The only thing wrong with it is that it needs a replacement battery, which is merely £30 on amazon. Never had a single problem otherwise.

The laptop sold for $430. Hopefully everything (payment and shipping) will go through smoothly. Thanks for the comments guys.

And Lenovo is definitely a reliable brand, but Asus is probably the best out there right now.

I'll be putting some other (non computer) stuff on eBay soon, so maybe I can get the Microsoft Surface within a few months. Or I'll wait for the 2nd gen Surface.

Congrats. I know you were hoping for more, but I guess it's not too bad. But it means getting closer to your surface at least.

However, I've never owned an Asus laptop (have had Acer, Lenovo and Compaq), though the motherboard in my gaming PC is Asus and I've found it to be realiable so far. It has a decent spec and features as well. So I'm pretty happy with it.

The thing I love with the Lenovo ThinkPads at least is their durability, whilst I've got one of their cheapest ranges, it's still pretty durable and doesn't feel cheaply built.

Acer and Compaq D=

*shudders*

The Lenovo certainly made up for them, I'm sure.

As long as you don't use HP, there should be no problem

Compaq used to be a separate brand, but they were taken over by HP. In the pre-HP years they were decent enough PCs. The Compaq laptop I used to have was from the pre-HP era and whilst it was underspecced for XP (I had XP installed, but it was built for 2000) it was by no means a bad laptop and it had a really good life to it...what do I mean had? It still works.

My first 2 desktops were Compaqs, first running Windows 95 and the second Windows 98SE. The hardware was perfectly reliable...can't really say the same about Win95 and 98SE XD.

Ah pre-HP, you're totally fine then.

Compaq did some pretty neat stuff before they were absorbed, if I recall correctly.

@Seppuku Arts
Thanks! I used the Lenovo a lot ( made plenty of games, movies, songs, digital art, and played plenty of games), so I'm not disappointed with what I got for it. I have a pretty powerful desktop, and I gave my Macbook to my mom, so I'm covered.

HP is always the worst. I am wondering how good Dell is now. the first computer I bought myself was a Dell (It served me well, but wasn't special), but this was awhile ago now.

I've got 2 dell laptops on my desktop right now
one's my 11 year old Latitude c610 which is still going! and the other is my Inspiron 15 which is alright. the Inspiron is a fairly good budget laptop, not great, but pretty good for $560. I think Dell's alright, they've served me well so far, but there are probably better options out there

From what I understand, Dell can be a hit or miss. I've generally avoided them. They're good budget, but I think they're good budget in the same way Acer are, my friends have Acers and they work fine, however, mine died over a month out of its warranty. But then I work in a call centre provide in warranty support for customers and I don't think you can necessarily judge a company because it has faulty hardware (they all have it), it's a question of how frequently they go wrong and to be honest, as far as Dell and Acer go all I can do is provide anecdotes and not actual failure rates.

Though Dell's business computers appear to be robust, at least they seem to be popular among businesses, wherever I've worked. Where I work now we have a lot Dells and mine runs just fine, so they must be doing something right.

Dell's workstation / server lineup is second-to-none - shame their consumer stuff is so flaky.
